Claims

Abstract

A lighting apparatus includes a housing, a light emitting module disposed on an open region at a first side of the housing, a heat sink unit disposed within the housing to absorb and discharge heat from the light emitting module, and at least one subsidiary heat pipe independent of the heat sink unit and disposed on the heat sink base. The light emitting module includes a heat sink base on which a semiconductor optical device is disposed.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An optical semiconductor-based lighting apparatus, comprising:
 a housing;   a light emitting module disposed on an open region at a first side of the housing, the light emitting module comprising a heat sink base on which a semiconductor optical device is disposed;   a heat sink unit disposed within the housing, the heat sink unit configured to absorb and discharge heat from the light emitting module, and comprising a heat sink block; and   at least one subsidiary heat pipe independent of the heat sink block and disposed on the heat sink base.   
     
     
         2 . The optical semiconductor-based lighting apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the heat sink base comprises a dense region, and the at least one subsidiary heat pipe is disposed outside the dense region. 
     
     
         3 . The optical semiconductor-based lighting apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the at least one subsidiary heat pipe comprises a peripheral line section formed along a periphery of the heat sink base. 
     
     
         4 . An optical semiconductor-based lighting apparatus, comprising:
 a housing;   a light emitting module disposed on an open region at a first side of the housing, the light emitting module comprising a heat sink base on which a semiconductor optical device is mounted;   a heat sink unit disposed within the housing, the heat sink unit configured to absorb and discharge heat from the light emitting module, and the heat sink unit comprising heat pipes adjoining the heat sink base,   wherein the heat pipes each comprise at least one subsidiary heat pipe independent of the heat sink unit and connected to the heat sink base.   
     
     
         5 . The optical semiconductor-based lighting apparatus of  claim 4 , wherein the at least one subsidiary heat pipe is disposed near a periphery of the heat sink base. 
     
     
         6 . The optical semiconductor-based lighting apparatus of  claim 5 , wherein the at least one subsidiary heat pipe comprises a circular pattern on the heat sink base. 
     
     
         7 . The optical semiconductor-based lighting apparatus of  claim 5 , wherein the at least one subsidiary heat pipe comprises a C-shaped pattern on the heat sink base. 
     
     
         8 . The optical semiconductor-based lighting apparatus of  claim 5 , wherein:
 the heat sink base has a rectangular shape; and   the at least one subsidiary heat pipe comprises two subsidiary heat pipes separated from each other, each comprising three straight segments, each segment disposed on the heat sink base parallel to a side of the heat sink base.   
     
     
         9 . The optical semiconductor-based lighting apparatus of  claim 5 , wherein the at least one subsidiary heat pipe comprises arcuate subsidiary heat pipes disposed in a circular shape.
