Claims

Abstract

The present invention relates to a mechanical draft cooling tower that employs air cooled condenser modules. The aforementioned cooling tower operates by mechanical draft and achieves the exchange of heat between two fluids such as atmospheric air, ordinarily, and another fluid which is usually steam. The aforementioned cooling tower utilizes a modular air cooled condenser concept wherein the air cooled condensers utilize heat exchange deltas that use tube bundles that are manufactured and assembled prior to being shipped to the tower site.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A mechanical draft modular air cooled condenser that extends along a vertical axis away from horizontal, comprising:
 a condenser module comprising:
 plenum; 
 a first delta wherein said first delta comprises a first condenser bundle having a first set of tubes having first ends and second ends, a first steam manifold connected to the first ends of the tubes, and a first condensate header connected to the second ends of the tubes; and a second condenser bundle having a second set of tubes having third ends and fourth ends, wherein said third ends are connected to said first steam manifold; and second a condensate header connected to the fourth ends of the second set of tubes; 
   a second delta wherein said second delta comprises a third condenser bundle having a third set of tubes having fifth ends and sixth ends, a second steam manifold connected to the fifth ends of the tubes, and a third condensate header connected to the sixth ends of the tubes; and a fourth condenser bundle having a fourth set of tubes having seventh ends and eighth ends, wherein said seventh ends are connected to said second steam manifold; and a fourth condensate header connected to the eighth ends of the fourth set of tubes; and   a support frame that supports said plenum; and a shroud that houses an air current generator.   
     
     
         2 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 1 , wherein said first condenser bundle is positioned at an angle to vertical and horizontal and said second condenser bundle is positioned at an angle to vertical and to horizontal wherein the first and second heat exchange bundles contact one another at a point to form an “A” type configuration. 
     
     
         3 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 2 , wherein each of the first and second condenser bundles is positioned at an angle to horizontal equal to approximately sixty degrees to approximately seventy degrees and wherein each of the first and second condenser bundles is positioned at an angle to vertical equal to approximately twenty degrees to approximately thirty degrees. 
     
     
         4 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 3 , wherein said third condenser bundle is positioned at at an angle to vertical and horizontal and said fourth condenser bundle is positioned at an angle to vertical and to horizontal wherein the third and fourth heat exchange bundles contact one another at a point to form an “A” type configuration. 
     
     
         5 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 4 , wherein each of the third and fourth condenser bundles is positioned at an angle to horizontal equal to approximately sixty-four degrees and wherein each of the third and fourth condenser bundles are positioned at an angle to vertical equal to approximately twenty-six degrees. 
     
     
         6 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second set of tubes have fins attached thereto. 
     
     
         7 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 6 , wherein each of the third and fourth set of tubes have fins attached thereto. 
     
     
         8 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 1 , wherein said first set of tubes and said second set of tubes have a length equal to approximately five to six meters. 
     
     
         9 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 2 , wherein said plenum is positioned below said first delta and said second delta. 
     
     
         10 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 1 , wherein each of the third and fourth sets of tubes have fins attached thereto. 
     
     
         11 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 1 , wherein said third set of tubes and said fourth set of tubes have a length equal to approximately five to six meters. 
     
     
         12 . A mechanical draft modular air cooled condenser that extends along a vertical axis away from horizontal, comprising:
 a condenser module comprising:
 plenum; 
 a first delta wherein said first delta comprises a first condenser bundle having a first set of tubes having first ends and second ends, a first steam manifold connected to the first ends of the tubes, and a first condensate header connected to the second ends of the tubes; and a second condenser bundle having a second set of tubes having third ends and fourth ends, wherein said third ends are connected to said first steam manifold; and second a condensate header connected to the fourth ends of the second set of tubes; 
   a second delta wherein said second delta comprises a third condenser bundle having a third set of tubes having fifth ends and sixth ends, a second steam manifold connected to the fifth ends of the tubes, and a third condensate header connected to the sixth ends of the tubes; and a fourth condenser bundle having a fourth set of tubes having seventh ends and eighth ends, wherein said seventh ends are connected to said second steam manifold; and a fourth condensate header connected to the eighth ends of the fourth set of tubes; and   a support frame that supports said plenum; and a shroud that houses an air current generator,   wherein said plenum is positioned below said first delta and said second delta.   
     
     
         13 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 12 , wherein said first condenser bundle is positioned at an angle to vertical and horizontal and said second condenser bundle is positioned at an angle to vertical and to horizontal wherein the first and second heat exchange bundles contact one another at a point to form an “A” type configuration. 
     
     
         14 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 13 , wherein each of the first and second condenser bundles is positioned at an angle to horizontal equal to approximately sixty degrees to approximately seventy degrees and wherein each of the first and second condenser bundles is positioned at an angle to vertical equal to approximately twenty degrees to approximately thirty degrees. 
     
     
         15 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 14 , wherein said third condenser bundle is positioned at at an angle to vertical and horizontal and said fourth condenser bundle is positioned at an angle to vertical and to horizontal wherein the third and fourth heat exchange bundles contact one another at a point to form an “A” type configuration. 
     
     
         16 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 15 , wherein each of the third and fourth condenser bundles is positioned at an angle to horizontal equal to approximately sixty-four degrees and wherein each of the third and fourth condenser bundles are positioned at an angle to vertical equal to approximately twenty-six degrees. 
     
     
         17 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 12 , wherein each of the first and second set of tubes have fins attached thereto. 
     
     
         18 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 17 , wherein each of the third and fourth set of tubes have fins attached thereto. 
     
     
         19 . The modular air cooled condenser according to  claim 12 , wherein said plenum is positioned below said first delta and said second delta.
