Abstract

A personal device is provided. The personal device includes an identification verification system that receives first identification data from a physical identification device, such as by inserting a driver's license into a card reader that is adapted to receive a driver's license. Second identification data such as a PIN number is also received. Payment authorization data or other suitable data is generated if the driver's license corresponds to the PIN. A payment selection system or other suitable system receives the payment authorization data and displays one or more payment accounts for selection by a user. Where a payment selection system is used, the payment selection system transmits payment account data to a point-of-sale system.

         21 . A method comprising:
providing payment data from an electronic personal device to a point of sale system using a wireless connection to a transaction processing system; determining whether transaction data is available in conjunction with the wireless connection to the transaction processing system; transmitting the transaction data if it is determined that the transaction data is available; determining whether the transaction data is associated with a radio frequency tag system; determining whether a transaction identifier has been provided; and providing the transaction data to the user if the transaction data is associated with the radio frequency tag system and the transaction identifier has been provided.

22 . The method of claim 21 wherein providing the transaction data to the user comprises providing an itemized identification of a purchase.

23 . The method of claim 21 further comprising providing the transaction identifier using the wireless connection.

24 . The method of claim 21 further comprising providing the transaction identifier using a wireless connection of the personal device.

25 . The method of claim 21 further comprising providing the transaction identifier to a desktop computer.

26 . The method of claim 21 further comprising:
determining whether the transaction data needs to be supplemented; and
 supplementing the transaction data.

27 . The method of claim 21 further comprising:
determining whether the transaction data needs to be supplemented in response to a user-entered request; and
 supplementing the transaction data.

28 . The method of claim 21 further comprising assigning the transaction data to a category as a function of a type of purchased good.

29 . The method of claim 21 wherein determining whether transaction data is available in conjunction with the wireless connection to the transaction processing system is performed at the electronic personal device.

30 . The method of claim 21 wherein transmitting the transaction data if it is determined that the transaction data is available is performed by the electronic personal device.

31 . The method of claim 21 wherein determining whether the transaction data is associated with a radio frequency tag system is performed at the electronic personal device.

32 . The method of claim 21 wherein determining whether a transaction identifier has been provided is performed by the electronic personal device.

33 . The method of claim 21 wherein providing the transaction data to the user if the transaction data is associated with the radio frequency tag system and the transaction identifier has been provided is performed by the electronic personal device.

34 . The method of claim 21 wherein determining whether transaction data is available in conjunction with the wireless connection to the transaction processing system is performed at the point of sale system.

35 . The method of claim 21 wherein transmitting the transaction data if it is determined that the transaction data is available is performed by the point of sale system.

36 . The method of claim 21 wherein determining whether the transaction data is associated with a radio frequency tag system is performed at the point of sale system.

37 . The method of claim 21 wherein determining whether a transaction identifier has been provided is performed by the point of sale system.

38 . The method of claim 21 wherein providing the transaction data to the user if the transaction data is associated with the radio frequency tag system and the transaction identifier has been provided is performed by the point of sale system.

39 . The method of claim 21 wherein determining whether transaction data is available in conjunction with the wireless connection to the transaction processing system is performed at the transaction processing system.

40 . The method of claim 21 wherein transmitting the transaction data if it is determined that the transaction data is available is performed by the transaction processing system.
