Abstract
Methods, systems and articles for receiving, by a telecommunication device, audio input through a unified audio interface are disclosed herein. The telecommunication device is further configured to perform at least one of a dictation action, an incoming message processing action, a navigation action, a content lookup action, or a contact lookup action while continuously or substantially continuously receiving voice commands from a user. In some aspects, the telecommunications device may continuously receive and process voice command while operating in a driving mode, which may be initiated by the telecommunications device.

1 . A method implemented in a telecommunication device, the method comprising:
receiving audio input from a user through a unified audio interface of the telecommunication device; analyzing at least a portion of the audio input as a command to perform an action; associating the action as at least one of a dictation action, an incoming message processing action, a navigation action, a content lookup action, or a contact lookup action; and initiating the action while continuing to receive the audio input from the user.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the action is the dictation action; and
further comprising: generating text based at least in part on audio input received from the user; and reading back at least a portion of the text to the user to verify whether the generated text is correct.
3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
identifying at least a portion of the audio input to contain a command to perform an operation with the generated text; verifying with the user that the portion of the audio input is intended to be the command; and executing the command upon verification of the command.
4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the reading back the at least a portion of the text is triggered by at least one of a pause in receipt of the audio input from the user, a predetermined amount of words of the generated text, a predetermined duration of time, or receipt of a user command to initiate the reading back.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the action is the incoming message processing action; and further comprising:
receiving an incoming transmission that is one of a telephone call or a message; announcing a contact associated with the incoming transmission; receiving another audio input as a command to handle the incoming transmission; and executing the command to process the incoming transmission.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the incoming transmission is a telephone call, and wherein the command includes at least one of a command to answer the telephone call, ignore the telephone call, or forward the telephone call.
7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the incoming transmission is a message, and wherein the command includes at least one of a command to read the message to the user or save the message.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the action is the navigation action; and
further comprising: receiving a destination location as at least a portion of the audio input from the user or a message directed to the user; receiving a command associated with the destination location; launching a navigation application when the command requests navigation to the destination location; and providing a list of directions when the command does not request navigation to the destination location.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the action is the content lookup action; and
further comprising: receiving a name of media content as at least a portion of the audio input from the user; locating the media content using the telecommunication device; determining a type of the media content; associating the media content with an application based at least in part on the type of the media content; and initiating playback of the media content using the application.
10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising receiving a command while playing the media content, the command being selected from one of a pause command, a skip command, or a stop command to modify the playing of the media content.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the action is the contact lookup action; and
further comprising: receiving a name of a contact as at least a portion of the audio input from the user; receiving a command associated with the contact; locating the contact using the telecommunication device; retrieving a phone number or a messaging address associated with the contact based at least in part on the command; and establishing a communication with the contact using the phone number or messaging address.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the locating the contact using the telecommunications device includes searching documents to locate the name of the contact and retrieve the phone number or the messaging address associated with the name in one of the documents.
13 . A telecommunication device comprising:
a processor; an audio recognition module operable by the processor and configured to recognize audio input captured on a substantially continuous basis by the audio capture process; and an audio routing module operable by the processor and configured to evaluate the recognized audio input to determine whether to handle the recognized audio input as an action selected from at least one of a dictation action, an incoming message processing action, a content lookup action, or a contact lookup action, and to initiate the action while the audio recognition module is configured to continuously receive the audio input from the user.
14 . The telecommunication device of claim 13 , wherein the action is the dictation action; and further comprising:
generating text based at least in part on audio input received from the user; reading back at least a portion of the text to the user to verify whether the generated text is correct; identifying at least a portion of the audio input to contain a command to perform an operation with the generated text; verifying with the user that the portion of the audio input is intended to be the command; and executing the command upon verification of the command.
15 . The telecommunication device of claim 13 , wherein the action is the incoming message processing action; and further comprising:
receiving an incoming transmission that is one of a telephone call or a message; announcing a contact associated with the incoming transmission; receiving another audio input as a command to handle the incoming transmission; and executing the command to process the incoming transmission by either reading the message or answering the telephone call.
16 . The telecommunication device of claim 13 , wherein the action is the content lookup action; and further comprising:
receiving a name of media content as the audio input from the user; locating the media content; determining a type of the media content; associating the media content with an application based at least in part on the type of the media content; and initiating playback of the media content using the application.
17 . The telecommunication device of claim 13 , wherein the action is the contact lookup action; and further comprising:
receiving a name of contact as at least a portion of the audio input from the user; receiving a command associated with the contact; locating the contact using the telecommunication device; announcing an availability status of the contact; retrieving a phone number or messaging address associated with the contact based at least in part on the command; and establishing a communication with the contact using the phone number or messaging address.
18 . A computer-implemented method implemented in a telecommunication device, the method comprising:
detecting at least one of movement of the telecommunication device in a vehicle, location of the telecommunication device in the vehicle using a wireless signal associated with the vehicle, or a connection of the telecommunication device with a dock associated with the vehicle; and activating a driving mode in response to the detecting of the movement in the vehicle, the location in the vehicle, or the connection with the dock, the driving mode to configure the telecommunication device to continuously receive voice commands from a user to control operation of the telecommunication device, including;
receiving audio input on a substantially continual basis from a user through a unified audio interface of the telecommunication device;
analyzing at least a portion of the audio input as a command; and
executing the command while continuing to receive the audio input from the user.
19 . The computer-implemented method of claim 18 , wherein the command is to perform a dictation action, and further comprising:
initiating the dictation of spoken words received from the user; generating text based at least in part on the spoken words received from the user; and reading back at least a portion of the text to the user to verify whether the generated text is correct, the reading back being triggered by a pause in receipt of the spoken words from the user for more than a threshold amount of time.
20 . The computer-implemented method of claim 19 , wherein the command is to perform a contact lookup, and further comprising:
receiving a name of a contact as at least a portion of the audio input from the user; receiving a subsequent command associated with the contact; locating the contact using the telecommunication device; retrieving a phone number or a messaging address associated with the contact based at least in part on the subsequent command; and establishing a communication with the contact using the phone number or messaging address.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
