Compositions and methods for producing stable negative oxidation reduction potential in consumable materials

Abstract

Compositions of reducing agents and carriers for producing a stable negative oxidation reduction potential in consumable materials are disclosed and claimed. Compositions of the invention find use in enhancing the hydration and anti-oxidant value of consumable materials such as foods, beverages and cosmetics, for example. Compositions of the invention also find use in water treatment, agricultural and scientific research applications. Methods for using and making the compositions are also within the scope of the invention.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A cosmetic composition comprising:
 a plurality of zero-valent, non-ionic, and non-oxidized magnesium metal particles; and   a cosmetic product.   
     
     
         2 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 1 , wherein the cosmetic product is selected from the group consisting of a makeup, a soap, a shampoo, a conditioner, a hair tonic, a wash, an exfoliant, a lotion, a sunscreen, a cream, a milk, an oil, an aqueous gel, an essence, a perfume, an extract, a mouthwash, a deodorant, an antiperspirant, a shaving cream, a shaving lotion, a shaving gel, and an after shave. 
     
     
         3 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 1 , in which the cosmetic composition is supplied as a first part comprising the cosmetic product and a second part comprising the magnesium metal particles. 
     
     
         4 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 1 , in which the cosmetic composition is supplied as a mixture of the magnesium metal particles and the cosmetic product. 
     
     
         5 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 1 , wherein the cosmetic composition is characterized by having a negative oxidation reduction potential (NORP). 
     
     
         6 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 1 , wherein the cosmetic composition is provided in an airtight container. 
     
     
         7 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 6 , wherein airtight container comprises aluminum. 
     
     
         8 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 6 , wherein airtight container comprises plastic. 
     
     
         9 . A method for improving the health and appearance of skin, comprising applying a cosmetic composition comprising a cosmetic product and a plurality of zero-valent, non-ionic, and non-oxidized magnesium metal particles to the skin. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the cosmetic product is selected from the group consisting of a makeup, a soap, a shampoo, a conditioner, a hair tonic, an aqueous gel, a wash, an exfoliant, a lotion, a sunscreen, a cream, a milk, an oil, an essence, a perfume, an extract, a mouthwash, a deodorant, an antiperspirant, a shaving cream, a shaving lotion, a shaving gel, and an after shave. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein application of the cosmetic composition provides a beneficial effect selected from the group consisting of anti-aging, improving skin moisture and turgor, diminishing lines and wrinkles, diminishing sun spots, treating sunburn, treating a skin allergy, treating a chemical burn, treating a thermal burn, treating an insect bites, and treating an injury resulting from contact with a poisonous plant. 
     
     
         12 . A kit for producing a cosmetic composition, comprising:
 a plurality of zero-valent, non-ionic, and non-oxidized magnesium metal particles;   a cosmetic product; and   instructions for use of the cosmetic composition.   
     
     
         13 . The kit of  claim 12 , wherein the instructions comprise directions for combining the magnesium metal particles with the cosmetic product to produce the cosmetic composition. 
     
     
         14 . The kit of  claim 12 , wherein the cosmetic product is selected from the group consisting of a makeup, a soap, a shampoo, a conditioner, a hair tonic, a wash, an exfoliant, a lotion, a sunscreen, a cream, a milk, an oil, an aqueous gel, an essence, a perfume, an extract, a mouthwash, a deodorant, an antiperspirant, a shaving cream, a shaving lotion, a shaving gel, and an after shave. 
     
     
         15 . The kit of  claim 14 , wherein the aqueous gel comprises an aloe gel. 
     
     
         16 . The kit of  claim 12 , wherein the gel formulation is characterized by having a negative oxidation reduction potential (NORP). 
     
     
         17 . The kit of  claim 12 , further comprising an airtight container. 
     
     
         18 . The kit of  claim 17 , wherein the airtight container comprises aluminum. 
     
     
         19 . The kit of  claim 17 , wherein the airtight container comprises plastic.
