Abstract

Methods, systems, and computer program products determine a battery needs replacement. A power supply utilizes a backup battery to provide backup electrical power. At some point, though, the backup battery becomes inadequate. When the backup battery cannot provide a desired duration of backup operation, an indicator is activated to recommend replacing the backup battery.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A power supply, comprising:
 a processor; and a machine-readable medium operatively coupled to the processor, the machine-readable medium storing instructions that when executed cause the processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:
 retrieving a full charge duration of backup time available from a battery operating at a full charge in the power supply;
 retrieving a desired duration of the backup time from the battery when providing backup power;
 comparing the full charge duration to the desired duration;
 determining the full charge duration is less than the desired duration; and
 determining the battery needs replacement in response to the full charge duration being less than the desired duration.

         2 . The power supply of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise activating an indicator to recommend the replacement of the battery.

         3 . The power supply of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise activating a light to indicate the battery needs the replacement.

         4 . The power supply of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise processing text for display to indicate the battery needs the replacement.

         5 . The power supply of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise receiving an input specifying the desired duration of the backup time.

         6 . The power supply of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise measuring the full charge duration of the backup time available from the battery.

         7 . The power supply of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise load testing the battery.

         8 . A method, comprising:
 retrieving, by a processor, a full charge duration of backup time available from a battery operating in a power supply at a full charge; retrieving, by the processor, a desired duration of the backup time from the battery when providing backup power; comparing, by the processor, the full charge duration to the desired duration; determining, by the processor, the full charge duration is less than the desired duration; and determining, by the processor, the battery needs replacement in response to the full charge duration being less than the desired duration.

         9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising receiving an input specifying the desired duration of the backup time.

         10 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising measuring the full charge duration of the backup time available from the battery.

         11 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising activating an indicator to recommend the replacement of the battery.

         12 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising activating a light to indicate the battery needs the replacement.

         13 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising processing text for display to indicate the battery needs the replacement.

         14 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising load testing the battery.

         15 . A computer readable medium storing instructions that when executed cause a processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:
 determining a full charge of a battery operating in a power supply; determining a full charge duration of backup time available from the battery at the full charge; retrieving a desired duration of the backup time from the battery when providing backup power; comparing the full charge duration of the backup time to the desired duration of the backup time; determining the full charge duration of the backup time is less than the desired duration of the backup time; and determining the battery needs replacement in response to the full charge duration of the backup time being less than the desired duration of the backup time.

         16 . The computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise activating an indicator to recommend the replacement of the battery.

         17 . The computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise activating a light to indicate the battery needs the replacement.

         18 . The computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise processing text for display to indicate the battery needs the replacement.

         19 . The computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise receiving an input specifying the desired duration of the backup time.

         20 . The computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise measuring the full charge duration of the backup time available from the battery.
