Hair care compositions and methods of treating hair using same

Abstract

The present invention provides kits and methods for treating hair on the scalp comprising non-toxic compositions providing beneficial effects on hair without employing high temperatures, free radical initiators or rinsing hair after applying the compositions.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for controlling frizz in scalp hair comprising applying to scalp hair a composition comprising a non-polymeric fluorinated alkyl carboxylic acid ester wherein the alkyl moiety of the ester is selected from the group consisting of: 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       wherein n is an integer between 0 and 20 and m is an integer between 1 and 6, and having a molecular weight less than about 1500 g/mol, to control frizz, and wherein the composition is in the form of a cream and further comprises water, an emulsifier, and a viscosity modifier, wherein the method does not result in substantial polymerization of the non-polymeric fluorinated ester with itself, and wherein hair treated with the composition affords no more than about 15% weight gain when subjected to Starch Test 1.
