Abstract
The invention discloses a method and system for surface enhancement of a pipe. The method includes the steps of: introducing the pipe in a wellbore; and applying a ribbed pattern to the inner surface of the pipe. An expander cone, having a largest outer diameter which is larger than the initial inner diameter of the pipe and having an outer surface provided with a correspondingly ribbed pattern, is moved through the pipe to apply the pattern.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for surface enhancement of a pipe, the method including the steps of:
introducing the pipe in a wellbore; and applying a ribbed pattern to the inner surface of the pipe.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of applying the ribbed pattern comprises:
moving an expander cone, having a largest outer diameter which is larger than the initial inner diameter of the pipe and having an outer surface provided with a correspondingly ribbed pattern, through the pipe.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the ribbed pattern comprises longitudinal ribs extending in axial direction of the pipe.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the ribs are applied to extend along a substantial part of the total length of the pipe.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the applied ribs extend along more than 90% of the length of the pipe.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the ribbed pattern is selected from the group of: triangle shape, semi-circular shape, and shark skin pattern.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of applying a ribbed pattern includes the step of:
coating the inner surface of the pipe.
8 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the inner diameter of the pipe is expanded less than 10%.
9 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the inner diameter of the pipe is expanded between 1% to 7%.
10 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the inner diameter of the pipe is expanded between about 3% to 5%.
11 . The method of claim 2 , including the step of:
applying a hydrophobic or hydrophilic coating on the inner surface of the pipe, either before or during expansion.
12 . The method of claim 1 , including the step of:
applying an anti-corrosive coating to the inner surface of the pipe.
13 . The method of claim 2 , comprising the steps of:
introducing cement slurry in the pipe from surface; introducing the expander cone on top of the cement slurry; pumping the expander cone towards the downhole end of the pipe, thereby moving the cement slurry to said downhole end and out of said downhole end into an annulus enclosing the pipe, and at the same time expanding the pipe.
14 . Use of the method of claim 1 for surface enhancement of a pipe in a wellbore.
15 . System for surface enhancement of a pipe, the system comprising:
a pipe string for introduction in a wellbore; an expander cone for expanding the inner diameter of the pipe, the expander having a largest outer diameter which is larger than the initial inner diameter of the pipe and having an outer surface provided with a ribbed pattern to be applied to the inner pipe surface.
16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the largest outer diameter of the expander cone is between about 1% to 7% larger than the initial inner diameter of the pipe.
17 . Expander cone having a ribbed outer surface for applying a corresponding ribbed pattern to the inner surface of a pipe.Cited by (0)
