Abstract
Disclosed is a computer based method for securing a financial transaction. A transaction device does not include any human readable data that can be used to identify the account owner and/or the transaction account. A first code and a second code are combined to determine an alias transaction account code. A transaction account is determined based upon the alias transaction account code.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 20 . (canceled)
21 . A system for facilitating a secure transaction, comprising;
a processor; and, a non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by the processor, cause the system to perform operations comprising: receiving first and second encoded data; decoding the first encoded data to obtain a first alias transaction account code; decoding the second encoded data to obtain a particular security key; generating a second alias transaction account code using an encryption operation that includes the particular security key and the first alias transaction account code; and using the second alias transaction account code in association with an authorization request for a transaction.
22 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the operations further comprise:
decoding the first encoded data to obtain a plurality of alias transaction account codes; and obtaining the first alias transaction account code by selecting one of the plurality of alias transaction account codes based on a particular selection algorithm.
23 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the operations further comprise:
decoding the second encoded data to obtain a plurality of security keys; and obtaining the particular security key by selecting one of the plurality of security keys.
24 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the encryption operation comprises encrypting the first alias transaction account code with the particular security key.
25 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the system comprises a merchant point-of-sale (POS) device configured to process transactions.
26 . A method, comprising:
receiving, by a computer system including a processor and a memory, first and second encoded data; the computer system decoding the first encoded data to obtain a first alias transaction account code; the computer system decoding the second encoded data to obtain a particular security key; the computer system generating a second alias transaction account code using an encryption operation that includes the particular security key and the first alias transaction account code; and the computer system transmitting the second alias transaction account code to a different computer system as part of an authorization request for a transaction.
27 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising receiving, by the computer system from the different computer system, an authorization response to the authorization request, wherein the authorization response is created based upon a customer account associated with the second alias transaction account; and
the computer system determining whether to facilitate completion of the transaction based upon the authorization response.
28 . The method of claim 26 , wherein at least one of the first encoded data and the second encoded data is in quick response (QR) code format.
29 . The method of claim 26 , wherein decoding the first encoded data comprises obtaining a plurality of alias transaction account codes, and wherein obtaining the first alias transaction account code comprises selecting the first alias transaction account code from the plurality of alias transaction account codes.
30 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising:
receiving, by the computer a second security key; and determining, by the computer system, the second alias transaction account code based upon the first alias account code, the particular security key and the second security key.
31 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the receiving comprises the computer system scanning the first and second encoded data from a transaction instrument at a point-of-sale (POS).
32 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the computer system is a point-of-sale (POS) device.
33 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising the computer system using a particular algorithm to decode the first encoded data to obtain the first alias transaction account code, wherein the particular algorithm uses least one of a date, a time, a merchant type, a transaction type, a location, a product type, a transaction instrument, or a payment network to make a selection.
34 . The method of claim 33 , wherein the transaction instrument does not display human-readable primary account information.
35 . The method of claim 33 , wherein the transaction instrument does not display any identifying information associated with a cardholder.
36 . An article of manufacture including a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by a processor of a computing device, cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:
receiving first and second encoded data; decoding the first encoded data to obtain a first alias transaction account code; decoding the second encoded data to obtain a particular security key; generating a second alias transaction account code using an encryption operation that includes the particular security key and the first alias transaction account code; and using the second alias transaction account code in association with an authorization request for a transaction.
37 . The article of manufacture of claim 36 , wherein the decoding the first and second encoded data comprises decoding a quick response (QR) code on a transaction instrument.
38 . The article of manufacture of claim 36 , wherein the operations further comprise generating the authorization request and transmitting it to an authorization computer system associated with a particular payment network.
39 . The article of manufacture of claim 38 , wherein the operations further comprise receiving an authorization response to the authorization request, wherein the authorization response indicates whether the transaction is approved by the authorization computer system, and wherein the authorization response does not include information specifying a primary account number.
40 . The article of manufacture of claim 36 , wherein the operations further comprise:
decoding the first encoded data to obtain a plurality of alias transaction account codes; and obtaining the first alias transaction account code by selecting one of the plurality of alias transaction account codes based on a particular selection algorithm.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
