Abstract

Methods and compositions for treating and preventing toxic side effects of platinum-based chemotherapy agents are disclosed, in which transplatin is administered to a subject. Transplatin is shown to have protective effects against cisplatin-induced ototoxicity, nephotoxicity and neurotoxicity. Anti-inflammatory activity of transplatin is demonstrated and methods and compositions for treating and preventing inflammatory pain are described.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method of treating or preventing inflammatory pain in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of transplatin.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method comprises administering the transplatin to the subject before the subject is expected to suffer from inflammatory pain.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is suffering from inflammatory pain.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is suffering from an inflammatory pain condition.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the transplatin is administered via intraperitoneal injection, subcutaneous injection, or intraganglionic injection.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the transplatin is administered via oral administration.

7 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the subject is a cancer patient.

8 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the subject is a cancer patient.

9 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the inflammatory pain condition is selected from arthritis, cancer, and chronic inflammatory pain.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of transplatin is between about 0.1 mg/kg and about 50 mg/kg.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the transplatin is administered with a second anti-inflammatory agent.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the second anti-inflammatory agent is selected from an NSAID and a combination of NSAIDS.

13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the transplatin is administered in a single pharmaceutical composition with the second anti-inflammatory agent.

14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the transplatin is administered simultaneously with the second anti-inflammatory agent.

15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the transplatin is administered within about 24 hours before administration of the second anti-inflammatory agent.

16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the transplatin is administered within about 24 hours after administration of the second anti-inflammatory agent.

17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the transplatin is administered within about 1 to about 6 hours before administration of the second anti-inflammatory agent.

18 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the transplatin is administered within about 1 to about 6 hours after administration of the second anti-inflammatory agent.
