Methods and systems for creating and managing multi participant sessions
Abstract
A method of creating a multi participant session among a plurality of viewers of media content. The method comprises automatically identifying which media content is currently presented on a plurality of client terminals of a plurality of subscribers, receiving, from a first subscriber, a first selection indicative of a template of a multi participant session object and a second selection indicative of a group from the plurality of subscribers, creating a multi participant session object adapted for simultaneous presentation with the media content according to first and second selections and establishing a multi participant session among at least one member of the group and the first subscriber using the multi participant session object.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method for selecting at least one interactive application, comprising:
identifying a plurality of interactive applications which are available to a client terminal of a user, wherein at least one of said plurality of interactive applications presents a graphical user interface (GUI) in conjunction with media content presented on a display of said client terminal; identifying a media content item being currently presented on said client terminal; automatically identifying at least one characteristic of at least one friend of said user watching said media content item with said user; automatically selecting a group of said plurality of interactive applications according to said at least one characteristic of said at least one friend; and presenting icons corresponding to members of said group on a display of said client terminal concurrently with presenting said media content item.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said media content item is a broadcast.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said media content item is a video on demand (VOD) content selected by said user.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said media content item is locally stored on a memory of said client terminal.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said media content item is locally stored on a memory device connected to said client terminal.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said plurality of interactive applications is stored on said client terminal.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said plurality of interactive applications is stored on a remote network node.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of said plurality of interactive applications is a commercial application which contains commercial content.
9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising automatically identifying at least one characteristic of said user, and wherein automatically selecting comprises automatically selecting said group of said plurality of interactive applications according to said at least one characteristic of said at least one friend and said at least one characteristic of said user.
10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
automatically identifying at least one media content characteristic of said media content item, wherein each of said at least one media content characteristic is one of: a genre, a length, a rating, an age rating, a language, an origin country, a production source, a production date and indirect advertising content; wherein said automatically selecting comprises automatically selecting said group of said plurality of interactive applications according to said at least one media content characteristic and said at least one characteristic of said at least one friend.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein one of said at least one media content characteristic is a genre.
12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein one of said at least one media content characteristic is a length.
13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein one of said at least one media content characteristic is a rating.
14 . The method of claim 10 , wherein one of said at least one media content characteristic is an age rating.
15 . The method of claim 10 , wherein one of said at least one media content characteristic is a language.
16 . The method of claim 10 , wherein one of said at least one media content characteristic is an origin country.
17 . The method of claim 10 , wherein one of said at least one media content characteristic is a production source.
18 . The method of claim 10 , wherein one of said at least one media content characteristic is a production date.
19 . The method of claim 10 , wherein one of said at least one media content characteristic is indirect advertising content.
20 . A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer executable instructions stored thereon, that when executed on a processor perform the steps of claim 1 .
21 . A system for selecting at least one interactive application, comprising:
1) a central unit comprising:
1.1) a processor; and
1.2) a non-transitory computer-readable medium for instructions execution by the processor, the non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions to receive a request with an identifier of a media content item currently presented by a client terminal to a user and to automatically send a response with at least one corresponding characteristic of at least one friend of said user watching said media content item with said user; and
2) a client terminal comprising:
2.1) a processor; and
2.2) a non-transitory computer-readable medium for instructions execution by the processor, the non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions to receive said response, to automatically select a group of a plurality of interactive applications available to said client terminal according to said at least one characteristic of said at least one friend and to present icons corresponding to members of said group on a display of said client terminal concurrently with presenting said media content item;
wherein at least one of said plurality of interactive applications presents a graphical user interface (GUI) in conjunction with media content presented on a display of said client terminal.
22 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for selecting at least one interactive application, comprising instructions stored thereof, that when executed on a processor, perform the steps of:
sending, by a client terminal to a central unit, a request with an identifier of a media content item currently presented by said client terminal to a user and automatically receiving, by the client terminal, a response with at least one corresponding characteristic of at least one friend of said user watching said media content item with said user; automatically selecting a group of a plurality of interactive applications available to said client terminal according to said at least one characteristic of said at least one friend; and presenting icons corresponding to members of said group on a display of said client terminal concurrently with presenting said media content item; wherein at least one of said plurality of interactive applications presents a graphical user interface (GUI) in conjunction with media content presented on a display of said client terminal.
23 . A method for selecting at least one interactive application, comprising:
identifying a plurality of interactive applications which are available to a client terminal of a user, wherein at least one of said plurality of interactive applications presents a graphical user interface (GUI) in conjunction with media content presented on a display of said client terminal; identifying a media content item being currently presented on said client terminal; automatically identifying whether the user is watching said media content item alone or that at least one friend of said user is watching said media content item with said user; automatically selecting a group of said plurality of interactive applications according to whether the user is watching said media content item alone or with said at least one friend; and presenting icons corresponding to members of said group on a display of said client terminal concurrently with presenting said media content item.Cited by (0)
