Abstract
A speed modifying device is provided. The speed modifying device comprises a base member. The speed modifying device also comprises a crank hub operably coupled to the base member. The speed modifying device also comprises a speed control mechanism rotatably attached, at a first end, to the crank hub, and rotatably attached, at a second end, to the base member. The speed control mechanism is configured to limit rotational motion of the crank hub.

1 . A speed modifying device comprising:
a base member; a crank hub operably coupled to the base member; a speed control mechanism rotatably attached, at a first end, to the crank hub, and rotatably attached, at a second end, to the base member; and wherein the speed control mechanism is configured to limit rotational motion of the crank hub.
2 . The speed modifying device of claim 1 , wherein the base member comprises one or more bottom portions, one or more middle portions, and one or more upper portions, wherein the one or more upper portions are connected to the one or more bottom portions by the one or more middle portions.
3 . The speed modifying device of claim 1 , wherein the speed control mechanism comprises a plurality of speed resistance mechanisms, each of which is attached, at a first end, to a crank hub connection point, and, at a second end, to a base member connection point.
4 . The speed modifying device of claim 1 , and further comprising a rotating support member, wherein the speed control mechanism is configured to transfer or limit the transfer of a rotational motion from the crank hub to the rotating support member.
5 . The speed modifying device of claim 1 , wherein the speed control mechanism is pneumatically driven.
6 . The speed modifying device of claim 1 , wherein the speed control mechanism is electrically driven.
7 . The speed modifying device of claim 5 , wherein the speed control mechanism comprises a pneumatic cylinder and a piston.
8 . The speed modifying device of claim 1 , wherein the speed control mechanism comprises a gas shock with fixed bearings.
9 . The speed modifying device of claim 3 , wherein the base member connection points are configured to permit an axial rotation of the speed resistance mechanisms.
10 . The speed modifying device of claim 1 , wherein the base member is stationary.
11 . The speed modifying device of claim 4 , wherein the one or more upper portions comprise a bearing assembly configured to transfer at least a portion of the rotational motion of the crank hub to the support member.
12 . A speed limiting mechanism comprising:
a plurality of speed resistance components; and a rotation driving component rotatably connected to the speed resistance components configured to drive rotation of the speed resistance components.
13 . The speed limiting mechanism of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of speed resistance components are mechanically driven.
14 . The speed limiting mechanism of claim 12 , wherein the rotation driving component comprises a crank hub and a crank arm, the crank hub being rotatably connected to the crank arm.
15 . The speed limiting mechanism of claim 14 , wherein the crank hub comprises an elongate component coupled to a center aperture of the crank arm, to transfer a rotational motion from the crank arm to the crank hub.
16 . The speed limiting mechanism of claim 14 , wherein the crank hub comprises an elongate component coupled to an offset aperture of the crank arm, the elongate component configured to transfer an offset rotational motion from the crank arm to the crank hub.
17 . The speed limiting mechanism of claim 12 , wherein the rotation driving component comprises a plurality of apertures configured to receive the plurality of speed resistance components.
18 . The speed limiting mechanism of claim 12 , wherein the rotation driving component comprises a single aperture configured to accept the plurality of speed resistance components.
19 . The speed limiting mechanism of claim 12 , further comprising a stationary base coupled to the rotation driving component.
20 . A rotation resistance device comprising:
a crank hub; a crank arm rotatably attached to the crank hub and configured to transfer rotational motion to the crank hub; and a piston mechanism rotatably attached to the crank hub and configured to limit the rotational motion of the crank hub.Cited by (0)
