Abstract
A blood filtration method, system, device and media for removing gram negative bacteria from the blood wherein the media includes a substrate coated with mannose optionally in constitution with substrate coated with heparin.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A blood-filtration medium comprising:
a substrate coated with mannose; and optionally an anti-coagulation component.
2 . The medium of claim 1 , wherein said substrate comprises non-porous rigid beads, particles, or packing, reticulated foams, a rigid monolithic bed, woven or nonwoven fabric, yarn or solid or hollow dense, monofilament fibers, a flat film or barrier membrane, a spiral wound cartridge formed from flat film or dense membrane.
3 . The medium of claim 1 , wherein said mannose is end-point attached to said substrate.
4 . The medium of claim 1 , wherein said anti-coagulation component is present, and said anti-coagulation component is heparin.
5 . The medium of claim 4 , wherein said substrate comprises substrate coated with said heparin.
6 . The medium of claim 4 , wherein said substrate comprises non-porous rigid beads wherein a first portion of said beads is coated with mannose and a second portion of said is coated with heparin.
7 . The medium of claim 6 , wherein said mannose and said heparin are each end-point attached to said beads.
8 . The medium of claim 1 , wherein said heparin is heparin sulfate.
9 . The medium of claim 1 , wherein said mannose is D-mannose.
10 . The medium of claim 1 , wherein said mannose is a D-mannose polymer.
11 . A blood filtration cartridge that comprises a container which comprises the medium of claim 1 .
12 . A system for filtering blood comprising:
a container comprising a substrate coated with mannose; optionally an anti-coagulation component; and an extracorporeal blood filtration device, wherein said container is functionally coupled to the blood filtration device so that when in use the blood flows through the container and contacts said substrate.
13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein said substrate comprises non-porous rigid beads, particles, or packing, reticulated foams, a rigid monolithic bed, woven or non-woven fabric, yarn or solid or hollow dense monofilament fibers, a flat film or barrier membrane, a spiral wound cartridge formed from flat film or dense membrane.
14 . The system of claim 12 , wherein said mannose is end-point attached to said substrate.
15 . The system of claim 12 , wherein is present and said anti-coagulation component is heparin.

19 . A method for removing at least one gram negative bacteria from blood comprising:
contacting a sample of blood with a media according to 1 .
20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the gram negative bacteria is an Enterobacteriaceae.
21 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the gram negative bacteria is at least one member selected from the group consisting of E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae , and P. aeruginosa.
22 . A method for attaching a mannose to an amine containing substrate, said method comprising:
contacting an aminated substrate with an aqueous solution containing a mannose to form a Schiff base intermediate; and contacting the Schiff base with a reducing agent to attach said mannose.
23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein said mannose is a reducing sugar.
