Skin Treatments Containing Carboxylic Acid-Substituted Idebenone Derivatives and Methods of Preparation and Use Thereof

Abstract

The present invention relates to novel carboxylic acid-substituted idebenone derivatives, skin treatment compositions containing these carboxylic acid-substituted derivatives, methods of treating skin changes by topical application of these carboxylic acid-substituted idebenone derivatives, and their methods of synthesis. The carboxylic acid-substituted idebenone derivatives of the present invention are unexpectedly effective in treating skin, particularly with respect to skin tolerance. When included in a topical composition, the carboxylic acid-substituted idebenone derivatives of the present invention have an antioxidant effect that is useful in treating a skin change.

         7 . A method of treating or preventing skin aging comprising topically administering a composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of idebenone dipalmitoyl glycerate to a subject in need thereof. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the skin aging is caused by UV damage. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the skin aging comprises age spots. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the idebenone dipalmitoyl glycerate is present in an amount of from 0.1 wt % to 2.0 wt % based on the total weight of the composition. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the idebenone dipalmitoyl glycerate is present in an amount of about 0.5% based on the total weight of the composition. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more of vitamin A, a derivative of vitamin A, vitamin B, a derivative of vitamin B, vitamin C, a derivative of vitamin C, vitamin E and a derivative of vitamin E.
