Abstract

Syringe assemblies and adapters for syringes that attach to and allow non-native syringes to be accepted by injectors having injector syringe interfaces adapted for particular types of syringes are described herein. Methods of forming the syringe assemblies and kits including the syringe adapters which enable a non-native syringe to be operably attached to an injector are also described.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 21 . (canceled)

22 . A syringe adapter for connecting a syringe to an injector, the syringe adapter comprising:
a first section having a first rearward portion and a first forward portion with a first seating; and a detached second section connectable to the second section, the second section having a second rearward portion and a second forward portion with a second seating, wherein, when connected, the first rearward portion and the second rearward portion are configured to operably connect the syringe assembly to an injector syringe interface, and wherein, when connected, the first forward portion and the second forward portion are configured to receive and seat at least a portion of a flange of the syringe within the first seating and the second seating.

23 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , wherein the first seating has a first portion of a front abutment and a first portion of a rear abutment, and
wherein the second seating has a second portion of the front abutment and a second portion of the rear abutment such that the flange of the syringe is received between the first and second portions of the front abutment and the first and second portions of the rear abutment.

24 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , wherein the first section and the second section form separate halves connectable together in a direction perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the syringe.

25 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , further comprising one or more snap connectors for joining the first and second sections.

26 . The syringe adapter of claim 25 , wherein the one or more snap connectors comprise mechanical connectors for joining the first and second sections.

27 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , wherein the first seating and the second seating are configured to receive the flange of the syringe such that the syringe is not rotatable relative to the first second and the second section.

28 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , wherein the first section and the second section, when connected, define a central passage to allow a drive member of the injector to pass through the central passage and operably contact to a plunger slidably positioned within the barrel.

29 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , wherein at least one of the first rearward portion and the second rearward portion comprises a mounting flange.

30 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , wherein at least one of the first rearward portion and the second rearward portion comprises a projecting tab configured to release the syringe adapted from the injector syringe interface.

31 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , wherein at least one of the first rearward portion and the second rearward portion comprises a radially extending ledge.

32 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , wherein at least one of the first rearward portion and the second rearward portion further comprises at least one indicator arranged to cooperate with a sensing system and positioned at predetermined positions to reflect light.

33 . The syringe adapter of claim 32 , wherein the at least one indicator indicates a configuration of the syringe to the injector.

34 . The syringe adapter of claim 32 , wherein the at least one indicator corresponds to a binary code.

35 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , further comprising a plunger adapter having a forward section configured to engage a plunger of the syringe and a rearward section configured to engage a piston of the injector.

36 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , wherein the first section and the second section are formed of polymeric material that is optically translucent.

37 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , wherein the first section and the second section are connected together by welding.

38 . The syringe adapter of claim 22 , wherein the first section and the second section are connected together by adhesion.

39 . A method of forming a syringe assembly, the method comprising:
providing a syringe having a barrel, a front end outlet in fluid connection with the barrel, and a rear end flange; providing an adapter comprising:
a first section having a first rearward portion and a first forward portion with a first seating; and
 a detached second section connectable to the second section, the second section having a second rearward portion and a second forward portion with a second seating;
seating a first portion of the rear end flange of the syringe in one of the first seating of the first section and the second seating of the second section; and seating a second portion of the rear end flange of the syringe in the other of the first seating of the first section and the second seating of the second section to connect the first section and the second section thereby connecting the adapter to the syringe, wherein the rear end flange of the syringe is seated in the first seating and the second seating.

40 . The method of claim 39 , wherein the first section and the second section are connected together by adhesion.

41 . A syringe adapter for connecting a syringe to an injector, the syringe adapter comprising:
a first section having a first rearward portion and a first forward portion with a first seating, a detached second section connectable to the second section, the second section having a second rearward portion and a second forward portion with a second seating, wherein the first section and the second section form separate halves connectable together in a direction perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the syringe, wherein, when connected, the first rearward portion and the second rearward portion are configured to operably connect the syringe assembly to an injector syringe interface, and wherein, when connected, the first forward portion and the second forward portion are configured to receive and seat at least a portion of a flange of the syringe within the first seating and the second seating such that the flange of the syringe is received between a front abutment and a rear abutment.
