Methods and Compositions for Promoting Wound Healing

Abstract

The present invention provides methods and compositions that use the combination of Tris and EDTA to inhibit the growth of microorganisms at the site of a wound or burn, and/or to promote the healing of a wound or burn, and/or to reduce the sensation of pain at the site of a wound or burn. The amount of Tris and EDTA applied to a wound or burn can be selected to achieve one or more of the foregoing effects.

A composition for promotion of wound healing or burn healing of tissue of a subject in need thereof, the composition comprising dissolved silver, EDTA, and Tris in amounts together effective to promote wound healing or burn healing of tissue in the presence of tissue fluids.

A method of promoting wound or burn healing of tissue of a subject in need thereof, the method comprising contacting the tissue with a composition comprising dissolved silver, EDTA, and Tris in amounts together effective to promote wound or burn healing of the tissue in the presence of tissue fluids.

An aqueous composition for promotion of wound healing or burn healing of tissue of a subject in need thereof, the aqueous composition comprising amounts of dissolved silver, EDTA, and Tris, the amounts together effective to promote wound healing or burn healing upon contact with tissue fluids.

A method of promoting wound or burn healing of tissue of a subject in need thereof, the method comprising contacting the wound or burn with a lavage or rise of an aqueous composition comprising amounts of dissolved silver, EDTA, and Tris, the amounts together effective to promote wound healing or burn healing upon contact with tissue fluids.
