Mobile device for making a mobile payment

Abstract

A system and method for enabling a payment includes a mobile wireless communications device having voice and data functionality and a payments system. The system enables a payment to be made by a user of the mobile wireless communications device to a party with which the user is in voice communication via the wireless communication link over which the voice communication is made. The voice communication link may be a wireless Voice-over-IP (VoIP) communications link.

1 . A method comprising:
 enabling a transmission, from an electronic server to a mobile communications device of the user, of information that is indicative of a purchase of an item that a user is viewing on a display of a computing device, wherein said computing device is in communication with said server and is a different device than said mobile communications device;   enabling receipt from the mobile communications device of information that is indicative of an authorization by the user to purchase said item, wherein said information comprises encoded data representative of a payment account of the user to be used for making payment for said purchase of said item; and   enabling a confirmation of a completion of said purchase to be transmitted to said computing device.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein said transmitting information that is indicative of a purchase comprises transmitting at least information indicative of the item being purchased and a price to be paid for purchasing said item. 
     
     
         3 . A system comprising:
 at least one electronic server that enables—
 transmission to a mobile communications device of information that is indicative of a purchase of an item that a user is viewing on a display of a computing device, wherein said computing device is in communication with said electronic server and is a different device than said mobile communications device; 
 receipt from the mobile communications device of information that is indicative of an authorization to purchase said item, wherein said information comprises encoded data representative of a payment account of the user to be used for making payment for said purchase of said item; and 
 wherein said system further enables a confirmation of a completion of said purchase to be transmitted to said computing device. 
   
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 3 , wherein said transmission of information comprises at least transmission of information indicative of the item being purchased and a price to be paid for purchasing said item. 
     
     
         5 . A non-transient computer readable medium containing program instructions for facilitating an electronic purchase transaction according to a method comprising:
 transmitting from an electronic server to a mobile communications device of the user information that is indicative of a purchase of an item that a user is viewing on a display of a computing device, wherein said computing device is in communication with said electronic server and is a different device than said mobile communications device;   receiving from the mobile communications device information that is indicative of an authorization to purchase said item, wherein said information comprises encoded data representative of a payment account of the user to be used for making payment for said purchase of said item; and   enabling a confirmation of a completion of said purchase to be transmitted to said computing device.   
     
     
         6 . The non-transient computer readable storage medium of  claim 5 , wherein said transmitted information comprises at least information indicative of the item being purchased and a price to be paid for purchasing said item.
