Instant search results with page previews

Abstract

Methods, systems, and programming for providing search previews is disclosed. At least one input is received. At least one query suggestion is generated based on the at least one input. The at least one query suggestion is displayed in a first display area. At least one web page preview is generated based on the at least one input. The at least one web page preview is displayed in a second display area. Each web page preview is viewable and actionable.

What is claimed: 
     
         1 . A method implemented on a computing device, the computing device having at least one processor, storage, and a communication platform connected to a network for providing search previews, the method comprising:
 receiving a request;   generating a query suggestion based on the request;   determining a web page related to the query suggestion;   obtaining a web page preview associated with the web page;   determining whether the web page preview satisfies a predetermined criterion;   when the web page preview satisfies the predetermined criterion, storing the web page preview for future retrieval as a search result;   when the web page preview does not satisfy the predetermined criterion, continuously refreshing the web page preview until the web page preview satisfies the predetermined criterion; and   providing the query suggestion and the web page preview to be simultaneously displayed in response to the request.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the predetermined criterion is related to at least one of: quality of the web page preview, and whether the web page preview reflects current content of the web page. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 receiving an update to the request;   updating the query suggestion for being displayed in a first display area based on the updated request; and   updating the web page preview for being displayed in a second display area based on the updated request.   
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining an additional web page related to the query suggestion;   obtaining an additional web page preview associated with the additional web page;   identifying a rich result that comprises a targeted search result with a predetermined association with the query suggestion; and   providing the additional web page preview and the rich result to be displayed simultaneously with the query suggestion and the web page preview, wherein   the query suggestion is to be displayed in a first display area,   the web page preview and the additional web page preview are to be displayed in a second display area, and   the rich result is to be displayed in a third display area.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the second display area is navigable based on detection of an input within the second display area, the input associated with coordinates within the second display area. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the first display area and the second display area are part of a combined display area that is invisible and embedded within a browser environment displayed on a display of the computing device, wherein the combined display area becomes visible in the browser environment in response to detection of a triggering event. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining a web page URL of the web page related to the query suggestion; and   determining whether the web page preview associated with the web page should be refreshed based on at least one of: whether the web page URL is new, a number of times the web page URL has been accessed, whether the web page URL is a recently failed URL, and whether the web page preview has been previously successfully generated.   
     
     
         8 . A machine readable non-transitory and tangible medium having information recorded for providing search previews, wherein the information, when read by the machine, causes the machine to perform the steps comprising:
 receiving a request;   generating a query suggestion based on the request;   determining a web page related to the query suggestion;   obtaining a web page preview associated with the web page;   determining whether the web page preview satisfies a predetermined criterion;   when the web page preview satisfies the predetermined criterion, storing the web page preview for future retrieval as a search result;   when the web page preview does not satisfy the predetermined criterion, continuously refreshing the web page preview until the web page preview satisfies the predetermined criterion; and   providing the query suggestion and the web page preview to be simultaneously displayed in response to the request.   
     
     
         9 . The medium of  claim 8 , wherein the predetermined criterion is related to at least one of: quality of the web page preview, and whether the web page preview reflects current content of the web page. 
     
     
         10 . The medium of  claim 8 , wherein the information, when read by the machine, further causes the machine to perform the steps comprising:
 receiving an update to the request;   updating the query suggestion for being displayed in a first display area based on the updated request; and   updating the web page preview for being displayed in a second display area based on the updated request.   
     
     
         11 . The medium of  claim 8 , wherein the information, when read by the machine, further causes the machine to perform the steps comprising:
 determining an additional web page related to the query suggestion;   obtaining an additional web page preview associated with the additional web page;   identifying a rich result that comprises a targeted search result with a predetermined association with the query suggestion; and   providing the additional web page preview and the rich result to be displayed simultaneously with the query suggestion and the web page preview, wherein   the query suggestion is to be displayed in a first display area,   the web page preview and the additional web page preview are to be displayed in a second display area, and   the rich result is to be displayed in a third display area.   
     
     
         12 . The medium of  claim 11 , wherein the second display area is navigable based on detection of an input within the second display area, the input associated with coordinates within the second display area. 
     
     
         13 . The medium of  claim 11 , wherein the first display area and the second display area are part of a combined display area that is invisible and embedded within a browser environment displayed on a display of the computing device, wherein the combined display area becomes visible in the browser environment in response to detection of a triggering event. 
     
     
         14 . The medium of  claim 8 , wherein the information, when read by the machine, further causes the machine to perform the steps comprising:
 determining a web page URL of the web page related to the query suggestion; and   determining whether the web page preview associated with the web page should be refreshed based on at least one of: whether the web page URL is new, a number of times the web page URL has been accessed, whether the web page URL is a recently failed URL, and whether the web page preview has been previously successfully generated.   
     
     
         15 . A system comprising at least one processor, storage, and a communication platform connected to a network for providing search previews, comprising:
 a search query unit for receiving a request;   a search suggestion unit for generating a query suggestion based on the request;   a search results unit for:
 determining a web page related to the query suggestion; 
 obtaining a web page preview associated with the web page; 
 determining whether the web page preview satisfies a predetermined criterion; 
 when the web page preview satisfies the predetermined criterion, storing the web page preview for future retrieval as a search result; 
 when the web page preview does not satisfy the predetermined criterion, continuously refreshing the web page preview until the web page preview satisfies the predetermined criterion; and 
   a display unit for providing the query suggestion and the web page preview to be simultaneously displayed in response to the request.   
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein the predetermined criterion is related to at least one of: quality of the web page preview, and whether the web page preview reflects current content of the web page. 
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein the search query unit is further configured for receiving an update to the request;
 updating the query suggestion for being displayed in a first display area based on the updated request; and   updating the web page preview for being displayed in a second display area based on the updated request.   
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein
 the search results unit is further configured for:
 determining an additional web page related to the query suggestion, 
 obtaining an additional web page preview associated with the additional web page, and 
 identifying a rich result that comprises a targeted search result with a predetermined association with the query suggestion; and 
   the display unit is further configured for providing the additional web page preview and the rich result to be displayed simultaneously with the query suggestion and the web page preview, wherein   the query suggestion is to be displayed in a first display area,   the web page preview and the additional web page preview are to be displayed in a second display area, and   the rich result is to be displayed in a third display area.   
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 18 , wherein the second display area is navigable based on detection of an input within the second display area, the input associated with coordinates within the second display area.

         21 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein the search results unit is further configured for:
