Selective forwarding of components of an attached archive in email system

Abstract

A communication management system. A computer receives an electronic communication including an attachment and selectively forwards components of the attachment to multiple recipients based on associating the recipients with the components.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for managing transmission of electronic communications having attachments, comprising:
 receiving an electronic communication from a user, the electronic communication comprising an attachment;   identifying components of the attachment;   assigning the components of the attachment to recipients in a list of recipients; and   sending the electronic communication to the recipients, wherein the electronic communication to a given recipient among the recipients includes the components of the attachment assigned to the given recipient.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the electronic communication is an email communication. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the attachment comprises an archived attachment comprising archived electronic files. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the archived attachment includes one or more of a Web Application Archive (WAR) file and an Enterprise Archive (EAR) file. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4 , further comprising:
 extracting the archived electronic files of the archived attachment,   wherein identifying components of the attachment comprise one or both of:
 identifying the electronic files extracted from the archived attachment; and 
 identifying components of the electronic files extracted from the archived attachment. 
   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the attachment comprises an electronic file having delineated sections. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein the document includes one or more of a word processing document, a spreadsheet document, and a presentation document. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the delineated sections of the spreadsheet document correspond to tabs in the spreadsheet document. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 archiving the components of the attachment assigned to the given recipient prior to sending the electronic communication to the given recipient.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein determining an assignment of the components of the attachment to recipients in the list of recipients is based, for the given recipient, on one or more of:
 a profile of the given recipient; and   a previous association of the given recipient with one or more of the components of the attachment.   
     
     
         11 . A computer system for managing transmission of electronic communications having attachments, comprising:
 a computer device having a processor and a tangible storage device; and   a program embodied on the storage device for execution by the processor, the program having a plurality of program instructions to:   receive an electronic communication from a user, the electronic communication comprising an attachment;   identify components of the attachment;   assign the components of the attachment to recipients in a list of recipients; and   send the electronic communication to the recipients, wherein the electronic communication to a given recipient among the recipients includes the components of the attachment assigned to the given recipient.   
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the system is an enterprise email system. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the attachment comprises an archived attachment comprising archived electronic files, and wherein the archived attachment includes one or more of a Web Application Archive (WAR) file and an Enterprise Archive (EAR) file, and wherein the instructions further include instruction to:
 extract the archived electronic files of the archived attachment,   wherein identifying components of the attachment comprise one or both of:
 identifying the electronic files extracted from the archived attachment; and 
 identifying components of the electronic files extracted from the archived attachment. 
   
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the attachment comprises an electronic file having delineated sections. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the method further comprises:
 archiving the components of the attachment assigned to the given recipient prior to sending the electronic communication to the given recipient.   
     
     
         16 . A computer program product for managing transmission of electronic communications having attachments, comprising a tangible storage device having program code embodied therewith, the program code executable by a processor of a computer to perform a method, the method comprising:
 receiving, by the processor, an electronic communication from a user, the electronic communication comprising an attachment;   identifying, by the processor, components of the attachment;   assigning, by the processor, the components of the attachment to recipients in a list of recipients; and   sending, by the processor, the electronic communication to the recipients, wherein the electronic communication to a given recipient among the recipients includes the components of the attachment assigned to the given recipient.   
     
     
         17 . The computer program product of  claim 16 , further comprising an enterprise email application. 
     
     
         18 . The computer program product of  claim 16 , wherein the attachment comprises an archived attachment comprising archived electronic files, and wherein the archived attachment includes one or more of a Web Application Archive (WAR) file and an Enterprise Archive (EAR) file, and wherein the method further comprises:
 extracting, by the processor, the archived electronic files of the archived attachment,   wherein identifying components of the attachment comprise one or both of:
 identifying, by the processor, the electronic files extracted from the archived attachment; and 
 identifying, by the processor, components of the electronic files extracted from the archived attachment. 
   
     
     
         19 . The computer program product of  claim 16 , wherein the attachment comprises an electronic file having delineated sections. 
     
     
         20 . The computer program product of  claim 16 , further comprising:
 archiving, by the processor, the components of the attachment assigned to the given recipient prior to sending the electronic communication to the given recipient.
