Abstract

A ventilation system and a method for producing the ventilation system are provided. The ventilation system includes an air vent including an entangled core and a separation layer formed on a side of the entangled core. The entangled core includes air space. A method for producing the ventilation system includes bonding the entangled core to a surface of the separation layer to form an air vent.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A ventilation system comprising an air vent comprising:
an entangled core comprising air spaces; and a separation layer formed on a side of the entangled core.

2 . The ventilation system according to claim 1 , wherein the entangled core has a thickness of about 0.5 to about 5 inches.

3 . The ventilation system according to claim 1 , wherein the entangled core comprises a thermoplastic material selected from the group consisting of a nylon, polyester, and polyolefin.

4 . The ventilation system according to claim 3 , wherein the thermoplastic material is selected from the group consisting of polypropylene and nylon 6.

5 . The ventilation system according to claim 1 , wherein the separation layer is thermally compatible with the entangled core.

6 . The ventilation system according to claim 1 , wherein the separation layer is selected from the group consisting of a nonwoven textile, film, kraft paper, needled felt, spunbond material, meltblown material, or a combination thereof.

7 . The ventilation system according to claim 1 , further comprising a radiant barrier comprising a reflective surface having infrared reflectivity, wherein the reflective surface of the radiant barrier is bonded to the entangled core.

8 . The ventilation system according to claim 7 , wherein the reflective surface of the radiant barrier has an emissivity of 0.1 or less.

9 . The ventilation system according to claim 7 , wherein the reflective surface of the radiant barrier has a reflectance of 0.6 or more.

10 . The ventilation system according to claim 7 , wherein the air vent further comprises a separation layer bonded to a side of the radiant barrier that opposes the reflective surface bonded to the entangled core.

11 . The ventilation system according to claim 7 , wherein the reflective surface of the radiant barrier is thermally bonded to the entangled core.

12 . The ventilation system according to claim 7 , wherein the radiant barrier comprises the thermoplastic material of the entangled core.

13 . The ventilation system according to claim 7 , wherein the reflective surface of the radiant barrier comprises a metal selected from the group consisting of aluminum, gold, silver, iron, chromium, nickel, copper, and alloys thereof.

14 . The ventilation system according to claim 1 , wherein:
the air vent is installed between an interior surface of a building and insulation; and the air vent extends from a soffit vent to a ridge vent.

15 . The ventilation system according to claim 14 , wherein the air vent is installed between rafters.

16 . The ventilation system according to claim 1 , wherein the entangled core has a three-dimensional structure selected from the group consisting of a waffle structure, a pyramid structure, a cone structure, and a cylinder structure.

17 . The ventilation system according to claim 1 , wherein the air spaces make up 90 to 99% of the entangled core.

18 . A method for producing the ventilation system according to claim 1 , comprising banding the entangled core to a surface of the separation layer to form an air vent.

19 . The method according to claim 18 , further comprising installing the air vent between an interior surface of a building and insulation.

20 . The method according to claim 18 , wherein the air vent is installed between rafters and extends from a soffit vent to a ridge vent.
