Abstract

A central system for receiving captured transaction data from a plurality of remote capture devices over a network, the remote capture devices including a mobile device type and a fixed location device type, the system comprising: a receipt module to receive the captured transaction data; a processing module to process the received captured transaction data; and a storage module to store the processed transaction data such that characteristic data of the mobile device type is associated with the stored transaction data for said processed transaction data originating from a remote capture device of the mobile device type.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
We claim:

1 . A method for processing a paper financial document by a mobile device, the method comprising:
imaging the paper financial document using a camera of the mobile device thereby creating a digital image of the paper financial document; capturing code line data associated with the financial document from the digital image of the paper financial document; sending the digital image and the code line data by the mobile device to a host system; and receiving an acknowledgment by the mobile device from the host system of the status of the digital image and the code line data associated with the paper financial document.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the status is any one of a status of a transaction related to the paper financial document and status of storage of the digital image and the code line data.

3 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:
performing local decisioning on the digital image of the paper financial document using a local subset of the central decisioning criteria, wherein the local subset are stored on the mobile device.

4 . The method of claim 3 wherein the subset of the central decisioning criteria is stored in a local verification database of the mobile device and performing local decisioning further comprises:
verifying the code line data with the local verification database of the mobile device.

5 . The method of claim 3 wherein the subset of the central decisioning criteria is stored in a local verification database of the mobile device and performing local decisioning further comprises:
verifying transaction data entered on a user interface of the mobile device with the local verification database of the mobile device.

6 . The method of claim 1 wherein the host system is a deposit management system and the acknowledgement further comprises error-checking information indicating a requirement for further data entry by the mobile device.

7 . The method of claim 1 wherein the host system is a deposit management system and the acknowledgement further comprises an indication that the digital image format is not supported by deposit management system.

8 . The method of claim 1 wherein the host system is a deposit management system, the method further comprising:
running an item acceptance process on the mobile device to determine whether the paper financial document can be accepted by the deposit management system.

9 . The method of claim 8 wherein the item acceptance process comprises validation of MICR data through any one of manual keying or rescanning.

10 . The method of claim 8 wherein the item acceptance process comprises image validation to ensure that the digital image is of sufficient quality for further processing.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the host system is a deposit management system, the method further comprising:
correcting the digital image for quality control issues; converting the digital image into a format that can be processed by the deposit management system; and sending the converted and corrected digital image to the host system through a network connection interface.

12 . A method for depositing a paper financial document by a mobile device having a camera, the method comprising:
imaging the paper financial document using the camera of the mobile device thereby creating a digital image of the paper financial document; correcting the digital image by the mobile device to correct for one or more of contrast, distortion, skew and size to generate a corrected digital image; converting the corrected digital image into a format that can be processed by a deposit management system to generate a converted digital image; sending the converted digital image to the deposit management system by the mobile device; and receiving an acknowledgment from the deposit management system.

13 . The method of claim 12 further comprising:
receiving keyed information associated with the paper financial document from a user interface of the mobile device; and
processing the digital image to recognize financial and personal data from the paper financial document.

14 . The method of claim 12 wherein the mobile device includes a GPS, the method further comprising:
obtaining geographical coordinates of the physical location of the mobile device by the GPS; and
associating the geographical coordinates with the digital image sent to the deposit management system.
