Abstract
Compounds and compositions, including engine oils and lubricant formulations comprising at least one estolide compound. Exemplary compositions comprise an estolide base oil and an additive package.

118 . A composition comprising:
(i) an estolide base oil having a kinematic viscosity from about 4 to about 10 cSt at 100° C., and an iodine value of less than 10 cg/g, said estolide base oil comprising at least one estolide compound selected from compounds of Formula I:
wherein
x is, independently for each occurrence, an integer selected from 0 to 14;
y is, independently for each occurrence, an integer selected from 0 to 14;
n is an integer selected from 0 to 8;
R 1 is an optionally substituted C 1 to C 22 alkyl that is saturated and branched or unbranched; and
R 2 is an optionally substituted C 1 to C 22 alkyl that is saturated and branched or unbranched,
wherein each fatty acid chain residue is unsubstituted;
(ii) at least one synthetic hydrocarbon oil or semi-synthetic hydrocarbon oil; and
(iii) at least one antioxidant.
119 . The composition according to claim 118 , further comprising at least one detergent inhibitor.
120 . The composition according to claim 119 , wherein the at least one detergent inhibitor comprises an overbased calcium sulfonate.
121 . The composition according to claim 118 , further comprising at least one viscosity modifier.
122 . The composition according to claim 121 , wherein the at least one viscosity modifier comprises a styrene-diene type polymer.
123 . The composition according to claim 118 , comprising a semi-synthetic oil selected from Group III oils.
124 . The composition according to claim 118 , comprising a synthetic oil selected from polyalphaolefins.
125 . The composition according to claim 118 , wherein the estolide base oil has an iodine value of less than 5 cg/g.
126 . A composition comprising:
(i) an estolide base oil having a kinematic viscosity from about 4 to about 10 cSt at 100° C., and an iodine value of less than 10 cg/g, said estolide base oil comprising at least one estolide compound selected from compounds of Formula I:
wherein
x is, independently for each occurrence, an integer selected from 0 to 14;
y is, independently for each occurrence, an integer selected from 0 to 14;
n is an integer selected from 0 to 8;
R 1 is an optionally substituted C 1 to C 22 alkyl that is saturated and branched or unbranched; and
R 2 is an optionally substituted C 1 to C 22 alkyl that is saturated and branched or unbranched,
wherein each fatty acid chain residue is unsubstituted;
(ii) at least one non-estolide base oil;
(Ill) at least one detergent inhibitor; and
(iv) at least one antioxidant.
127 . The composition according to claim 126 , wherein the at least one detergent inhibitor comprises an overbased calcium sulfonate.
128 . The composition according to claim 126 , wherein the at least one non-estolide base oil comprises a synthetic hydrocarbon oil and/or a semi-synthetic hydrocarbon oil.
129 . The composition according to claim 128 , comprising a semi-synthetic oil selected from Group III oils.
130 . The composition according to claim 128 , comprising a synthetic oil selected from polyalphaolefins.
131 . The composition according to claim 126 , wherein the non-estolide base oil comprises a naphthenic oil.
132 . The composition according to claim 126 , further comprising at least one viscosity modifier.
133 . The composition according to claim 132 , wherein the at least one viscosity modifier comprises a styrene-diene type polymer.
134 . The composition according to claim 126 , wherein the estolide base oil has an iodine value of less than 5 cg/g.
135 . The composition according to claim 126 , wherein x is, independently for each occurrence, selected from 1 to 10.
136 . The composition according to claim 135 , wherein y is, independently for each occurrence, selected from 4 to 6.
