Method of Testing for Endometriosis and Treatment Therefor

Abstract

The present invention relates to novel genetic markers associated with endometriosis and risk of developing endometriosis, and methods and materials for determining whether a human subject has endometriosis or is at risk of developing endometriosis and the use of such risk information in selectively administering a treatment that at least partially prevents or compensates for an endometriosis related symptom.

1 . A method of treating pain comprising applying at least one therapeutic to a patient having at least one gynecological disorder associated biomarker. 
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein said therapeutic defines at least one of the administration or cancellation of a compound and the administration or cancellation of an invasive procedure. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein said compound defines an estrogen containing composition, a progesterone containing composition, a progestin containing composition, and a gonadotropin releasing-hormone (GnRH) agonist, and wherein said invasive procedure defines a laparoscopy. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein said gynecological disorder defines dysmenorrhea. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein said gynecological disorder associated biomarker defines at least one of an increased risk of a disorder biomarker and a decreased risk of a disorder biomarker. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein said at least one gynecological disorder associated biomarker is located in the DNA of said patient. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein said at least one gynecological disorder associated biomarker defines the minor allele of at least one biomarker of table 1. 
     
     
         8 . A method of treating infertility comprising applying at least one therapeutic to a patient having at least one gynecological disorder associated biomarker. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein said therapeutic defines at least one of the administration or cancellation of a compound and the administration or cancellation of an invasive procedure. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein said compound defines an estrogen containing composition, a progesterone containing composition, a progestin containing composition, and a gonadotropin releasing-hormone (GnRH) agonist, and wherein said invasive procedure defines at least one of a laparoscopy and an Advanced Reproductive Therapy. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein said gynecological disorder defines endometriosis. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein said gynecological disorder associated biomarker defines at least one of an increased risk of a disorder biomarker and a decreased risk of a disorder biomarker. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein said at least one gynecological disorder associated biomarker is located in the DNA of said patient. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein said at least one gynecological disorder associated biomarker defines the minor allele of at least one biomarker of table 1. 
     
     
         15 . A method of treating at least one of pain and infertility comprising applying at least one therapeutic to a patient having at least one gynecological disorder associated biomarker. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein said therapeutic defines at least one of the administration or cancellation of a compound and the administration or cancellation of an invasive procedure. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 16 , wherein said compound defines an estrogen containing composition, a progesterone containing composition, a progestin containing composition, and a gonadotropin releasing-hormone (GnRH) agonist, and wherein said invasive procedure defines at least one of a laparoscopy and an Advanced Reproductive Therapy. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein said gynecological disorder defines at least one of dysmenorrhea and endometriosis. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein said gynecological disorder associated biomarker defines at least one of an increased risk of a disorder biomarker and a decreased risk of a disorder biomarker. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein said at least one gynecological disorder associated biomarker is located in the DNA of said patient. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein said at least one gynecological disorder associated biomarker defines the minor allele of at least one biomarker of table 1.
