Abstract

Pharmaceutical compositions are provided which comprise effective amounts of an analgesic to treat a subject, including to reduce or eliminate an adverse effect associated with the analgesic.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for treating pain, and reducing or preventing nausea or vomiting associated with hydrocodone, comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an immediate-release bi-layered tablet, wherein the immediate-release bi-layered tablet comprises:
 a first layer, wherein the first layer comprises promethazine; and   a second layer, wherein the second layer comprises: about 2.5 to about 10 mg of hydrocodone, and about 325 to about 500 mg of acetaminophen, wherein the immediate-release bi-layered tablet provides an effective amount of the promethazine to reduce or prevent nausea associated with hydrocodone or reduce or prevent vomiting associated with hydrocodone in the subject in need thereof, and an effective amount of the hydrocodone and the acetaminophen to treat pain in the subject in need thereof.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the method reduces vomiting associated with hydrocodone. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the method reduces nausea associated with hydrocodone. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the method reduces nausea and vomiting associated with hydrocodone. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the pain is severe pain. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the promethazine is present in an amount of about 12.5 to about 50 mg. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the promethazine is present in an amount of about 12.5 mg. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the hydrocodone is provided as hydrocodone bitartrate. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the hydrocodone bitartrate is present in an amount of about 7.5 mg. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the acetaminophen is present in an amount of about 325 mg. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the method treats pain and reduces nausea and vomiting associated with hydrocodone, and wherein the promethazine is present in an amount of about 12.5 mg. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein the immediate-release bi-layered tablet further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 
     
     
         13 . An immediate-release bi-layered tablet, wherein the immediate-release bi-layered tablet comprises:
 a first layer, wherein the first layer comprises promethazine; and   a second layer, wherein the second layer comprises: about 2.5 to about 10 mg of hydrocodone, and about 325 to about 500 mg of acetaminophen, wherein the immediate-release bi-layered tablet provides an effective amount of the promethazine to reduce or prevent nausea associated with hydrocodone or reduce or prevent vomiting associated with hydrocodone, and an effective amount of the hydrocodone and the acetaminophen to treat pain.   
     
     
         14 . The immediate-release bi-layered tablet of  claim 13 , wherein the immediate-release bi-layered tablet reduces vomiting associated with hydrocodone. 
     
     
         15 . The immediate-release bi-layered tablet of  claim 13 , wherein the immediate-release bi-layered tablet reduces nausea associated with hydrocodone. 
     
     
         16 . The immediate-release bi-layered tablet of  claim 13 , wherein the immediate-release bi-layered tablet reduces nausea and vomiting associated with hydrocodone. 
     
     
         17 . The immediate-release bi-layered tablet of  claim 13 , wherein the pain is severe pain. 
     
     
         18 . The immediate-release bi-layered tablet of  claim 13 , wherein the promethazine is present in an amount of about 12.5 to about 50 mg. 
     
     
         19 . The immediate-release bi-layered tablet of  claim 18 , wherein the promethazine is present in an amount of about 12.5 mg. 
     
     
         20 . The immediate-release bi-layered tablet of  claim 13 , wherein the hydrocodone is provided as hydrocodone bitartrate. 
     
     
         21 . The immediate-release bi-layered tablet of  claim 20 , wherein the hydrocodone bitartrate is present in an amount of about 7.5 mg. 
     
     
         22 . The immediate-release bi-layered tablet of  claim 13 , wherein the acetaminophen is present in an amount of about 325 mg. 
     
     
         23 . The immediate-release bi-layered tablet of  claim 13 , wherein the immediate-release bi-layered tablet treats pain and reduces nausea and vomiting associated with hydrocodone, and wherein the promethazine is present in an amount of about 12.5 mg. 
     
     
         24 . The immediate-release bi-layered tablet of  claim 23 , wherein the immediate-release bi-layered tablet further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
