Abstract

A fall arrest safety net assembly including a bag constructed from one or more wire strands which are turned back upon themselves to form loop members and a plurality of eyes. An elongate line extends through the eyes spaced about the mouth of the bag. The bag includes a slit that separates a first loop member from an adjacent second loop member. The second loop member includes a toggle that is sized to selectively prevent the toggle from exiting an accepting space opening.

Claims

2 . The fall arrest safety net assembly of claim 1 , wherein the bag is formed from a rectangular main mesh panel and a pair of end panels, each of the rectangular main mesh panel and the pair of end panels constructed from the one or more wire strands which are turned back upon themselves to form the loop members and the plurality of eyes, wherein the rectangular main mesh panel includes opposing transverse edges and opposing longitudinal edges, wherein eyes are located along the opposing transverse edges of the rectangular main mesh panel and wherein each end panel is fixed to a respective one of the longitudinal edges.

3 . The fall arrest safety net assembly of claim 1 , and further comprising:
a first locator tab mounted on the bag, the first locator tab having a body member having a first side and a second side, a clamping member coupled to the first side of the body member and having a pair of legs, one of the legs clamping a portion of a third loop member to the first surface of the body member and the other leg clamping a portion of a fourth loop member to the first side of the body member, the third loop member adjacent to the fourth loop member; and a second locator tab mounted on the bag, the second locator tab having a body member having a first side and a second side, a clamping member coupled to the first side of the body member and having a pair of legs, one of the legs clamping a portion of a fifth loop member to the first surface of the body member and the other leg clamping a portion of a sixth loop member to the first side of the body member, the fifth loop member adjacent to the sixth loop member.

4 . The fall arrest safety net assembly of claim 3 wherein the first locator tab is mounted approximately 180° from the second locator tab.

5 . The fall arrest safety net assembly of claim 1 wherein the elongate line has a thickness greater than the thickness of the one or more wire strands.

6 . The fall arrest safety net assembly of claim 1 and further comprising:
a first hook member coupled to the first end of the elongate line; and
a second hook member coupled to the second end of the elongate line.

7 . The fall arrest safety net assembly of claim 6 wherein the first hook member comprises a carabineer.

8 . The fall arrest safety net assembly of claim 7 wherein the second hook member comprises a carabineer.

9 . The fall arrest safety net assembly of claim 1 wherein the toggle has a cylinder shape and an axial length and wherein the axial length is greater than the mesh strand accepting space opening.

10 . The fall arrest safety net assembly of claim 1 and further comprising a choker fitting having at least one aperture through which the elongate line extends.

11 . A method of making a fall arrest safety net arrangement, the method comprising:
forming a mesh bag having a closed end and an opposing open mouth by turning one or more wire strands back upon themselves to form loop members and plurality of eyes spaced about the mouth of the mesh bag; joining adjacent loop members of the mesh bag to one another with fastenings; extending an elongate line through the eyes spaced about the mouth; separating a first loop member from an adjacent second loop member to form a slit extending from the open mouth to the closed end; securing a first end and a second end of an auxiliary wire to the first loop member to define a mesh strand accepting space opening between the auxiliary wire and the first loop member; and securing a toggle on the second loop member, the toggle sized to selectively prevent the toggle from exiting the mesh strand accepting space opening.

12 . The method of claim 11 wherein forming the mesh bag comprises:
 forming a rectangular main mesh panel by turning one or more wire strands back upon themselves to form the loop members and eyes, the rectangular main mesh panel having opposing transverse edges and opposing longitudinal edges, wherein the eyes are located along the transverse edges;
forming a pair of end panels by turning one or more wire strands back upon themselves to form the loop members and the eyes; and
fixing each end panel to a respective one of the longitudinal edges of the rectangular main mesh panel.

13 . The method of claim 11 and further comprising connecting a first locator tab and a second locator tab on the mesh bag in a spaced apart relationship, each of the locator tabs having a body member having a first side and a second side, a clamping member coupled to the first side of the body member and having a pair of legs, wherein one of the legs of the first locator tab is connected to a portion of a third loop member and the other leg of the first locator tab is connected to a portion of a fourth loop member, and wherein the third loop member is adjacent to the fourth loop member.
