- 7 . (canceled)

. A method of treating a subject diagnosed with a syndrome of progressive visual loss comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of ibudilast or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

. The method of claim 8 in which the ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered for at least 3 months.

. The method of claim 8 in which the ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered for at least six months.

. The method of claim 8 in which the ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered for at least one year.

. The method of claim 8 in which the ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered for at least two years.

. The method of claim 8 in which the ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered at least once daily.

. The method of claim 8 in which the ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered at least twice daily.

. The method of claim 8 in which the ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered orally.

. The method of claim 8 in which the ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered parenterally, enterally, intravenously, intranasally, or sublingually.

. The method of claim 8 in which the ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered topically.

. The method of claim 17 , in which the ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered as an ointment.

. The method of claim 8 , in which the ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered through an injection.

. The method of claim 8 , wherein the therapeutically effective amount of ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is from about 0.1 mg to about 200 mg per day.

. The method of claim 8 , wherein the therapeutically effective amount of ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is from about 1 mg to about 240 mg per day.

. The method of claim 8 , wherein the therapeutically effective amount of ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is from about 30 mg to about 240 mg per day.

. The method of claim 8 , wherein the therapeutically effective amount of ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is from about 30 mg to about 180 mg per day.

. The method of claim 8 , in which the therapeutically effective amount of ibudilast or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is selected from the group consisting of 30 mg/day, 60 mg/day, 90 mg/day, or 120 mg/day.

. The method of claim 8 , wherein the therapeutically effective amount is administered as a single dose or is divided into multiple dosages.

. The method of claim 8 , wherein the therapeutically effective amount is administered in one, two, or three doses per day.

. The method of claim 8 , wherein the ibudilast or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered as part of a combination therapy that includes one or more other therapeutic agents.

. The method of claim 27 , wherein the one or more other therapeutic agents is approved and known to have a utility in the syndrome of progressive visual loss.

. The method of claim 8 , wherein the subject is a human subject.
