Abstract

In embodiments of portable device pairing with a tracking system, a pairing system includes a portable device that generates device acceleration gesture data responsive to a series of motion gestures of the portable device. The pairing system also includes a tracking system that is configured for pairing with the portable device. The tracking system recognizes the series of motion gestures of the portable device and generates tracked object position gesture data. A pairing service can then determine that the series of motion gestures of the portable device corresponds to the series of motion gestures recognized by the tracking system, and communicate a pairing match notification to both the tracking system and the portable device to establish the pairing.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A portable device comprising:
 one or more processors; one or more computer-readable storage media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, perform operations comprising:
 generating device acceleration gesture data responsive to a series of motion gestures of the portable device;
 communicating the device acceleration gesture data to a pairing service; and
 receiving a pairing match notification from the pairing service to establish pairing the portable device with a tracking system.

         2 . The portable device as recited in claim 1 , further comprising one or more motions sensors configured to detect the series of motion gestures of the portable device.

         3 . The portable device as recited in claim 1 , wherein the one or more motion sensors comprise an accelerometer.

         4 . The portable device as recited in claim 1 , wherein the series of motion gestures correspond to a user holding the portable device and making the series of motion gestures.

         5 . The portable device as recited in claim 1 , wherein the pairing match notification is received responsive to the tracking system recognizing the series of motion sensors using one or more sensors or cameras.

         6 . The portable device as recited in claim 1 , further configured to perform operations comprising communicating with the tracking system based on a pairing match of the portable device with the tracking system.

         7 . The portable device as recited in claim 1 , further configured to perform operations comprising displaying customization information associated with a gaming system that is not displayed on a primary display of the gaming system.

         8 . The portable device as recited in claim 1 , wherein the tracking system and the pairing service are implemented at a single device.

         9 . The portable device as recited in claim 1 , wherein the tracking system is implemented at a device remote from the pairing service.

         10 . The portable device as recited in claim 1 , wherein the tracking system is integrated into a computing device that supports a gaming system.

         11 . A pairing service comprising:
 at least a memory and a processor configured to perform operations comprising:
 receiving, from a portable device, plane aligned device gesture data associated with a series of motion gestures of the portable device;
 receiving, from a tracking system, plane aligned object gesture data associated with the series of motion gestures recognized by the tracking system;
 comparing the plane aligned device gesture data with the plane aligned object gesture data; and
 responsive to the plane aligned device gesture data matching the plane aligned object gesture data, causing the portable device to be paired with the tracking system.

         12 . The pairing service as recited in claim 11 , wherein the pairing service causes the portable device to be paired with the tracking system by communicating a pairing match notification to both the portable device and the tracking system.

         13 . The pairing service as recited in claim 11 , wherein the plane aligned device gesture data and the plane aligned object gesture data is generated based on an X,Y plane of the series of motion gestures.

         14 . The pairing service as recited in claim 11 , wherein the pairing service is implemented remote from the tracking system.

         15 . The pairing service as recited in claim 11 , wherein the pairing service and the tracking system are implemented at a single device.

         16 . A method implemented at a portable device, the method comprising:
 generating device acceleration gesture data responsive to a series of motion gestures of the portable device; communicating the device acceleration gesture data to a pairing service; and receiving a pairing match notification from the pairing service to establish pairing the portable device with a tracking system.

         17 . The method as recited in claim 16 , wherein the series of motion gestures are detected using one or more motions sensors of the portable device.

         18 . The method as recited in claim 17 , wherein the one or more motion sensors comprise an accelerometer.

         19 . The method as recited in claim 16 , wherein the pairing match notification is received responsive to the tracking system recognizing the series of motion sensors using one or more sensors or cameras.

         20 . The method as recited in claim 16 , further comprising communicating with the tracking system based on a pairing match of the portable device with the tracking system.
