Abstract
A system, method, and computer program product are provided for a host device to request and obtain failure information from a solid state drive (SSD). In operation, an error is detected during an operation associated with a solid state drive. Additionally, a command to return failure information is provided to the solid state drive by a host device. Further, the failure information is sent from the solid state drive to the host device, the failure information including failure information associated with the solid state drive.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A storage system comprising:
a memory; a communication bus coupled to a solid state drive (SSD) and configured to send commands to the SSD; and a central processor communicatively coupled to the communication bus and the memory, the central processor configured to
provide a command to return SSD failure information; and
receive the SSD failure information.
2 . The storage system of claim 1 , wherein the SSD failure information comprises a storage media location where an error associated with the SSD failure information occurred.
3 . The storage system of claim 2 , wherein the SSD failure information further comprises information indicating whether the specific storage media location is associated with corrupt data.
4 . The storage system of claim 1 , wherein the SSD failure information comprises information indicating that the SSD was unable to free up a storage media location in which to write data for an operation associated with the SSD failure information.
5 . The storage system of claim 1 , wherein the SSD failure information comprises a persistent failure indication and the central processor is further configured to determine that an error associated with the SSD failure information is associated with a reoccurring event.
6 . The storage system of claim 1 , wherein the SSD failure information comprises information indicating where the SSD is on a life expectancy curve.
7 . The storage system of claim 1 , wherein the SSD failure information is capable of being utilized to recover failure information associated with a native command queuing (NCQ) command issued to the SSD.
8 . The storage system of claim 1 , wherein the command includes a command that is capable of being used to fetch SSD information to recover from a native command queuing (NCQ) command and failure information associated with the NCQ command
9 . A method comprising:
providing, from a host device to a solid state drive (SSD), a command to return SSD failure information; and receiving, at the host device from the SSD, the SSD failure information.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the SSD failure information comprises a persistent failure indication, wherein the method further comprises determining, by the host device, that an error associated with the SSD failure information is associated with a reoccurring event.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein prior to the determination, the SSD failure information comprises a transient failure indication.
12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the SSD failure information comprises a storage media location where an error associated with the SSD failure information occurred.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the SSD failure information further comprises information indicating whether the storage media location is associated with corrupt data.
14 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the SSD failure information comprises information indicating that the SSD was unable to free up a storage media location in which to write data for an operation associated with the failure information.
15 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the SSD failure information comprises information indicating where the SSD is on a life expectancy curve.
16 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the command includes a command that is capable of being used to fetch SSD information to recover from a native command queuing (NCQ) command and failure information associated with the NCQ command.
17 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the failure information is capable of being utilized to recover failure information associated with a native command queuing (NCQ) command issued to the SSD.
18 . A non-transitory computer readable medium having processor-executable instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:
provide, to a solid state drive (SSD), a command to return SSD failure information; and receive, from the SSD, the SSD failure information.
19 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the SSD failure information comprises a persistent failure indication, wherein the processor is further configured to determine that an error associated with the SSD failure information is associated with a reoccurring event.
20 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the SSD failure information comprises a storage media location where an error associated with the failure information occurred.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
