Locating a mobile station and applications therefor
Abstract
A location system is disclosed for wireless telecommunication infrastructures. The system is an end-to-end solution having one or more location systems for outputting requested locations of hand sets or mobile stations (MS) based on, e.g., AMPS, NAMPS, CDMA or TDMA communication standards, for processing both local mobile station location requests and more global mobile station location requests via, e.g., Internet communication between a distributed network of location systems. The system uses a plurality of mobile station locating technologies including those based on: (1) two-way TOA and TDOA; (2) home base stations and (3) distributed antenna provisioning. Further, the system can be modularly configured for use in location signaling environments ranging from urban, dense urban, suburban, rural, mountain to low traffic or isolated roadways. The system is useful for 911 emergency calls, tracking, routing, people and animal location including applications for confinement to and exclusion from certain areas.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . (canceled)
2 . The method of claim 3 , further including performing the following by computational equipment: obtaining information indicative of one of: an acceleration, and a speed of the particular mobile station.
3 . A method, for each mobile device (M) of a plurality of wireless mobile telecommunication devices, of providing for a condition related to an event or circumstance of the mobile device M or a user thereof, a notification related to the condition, wherein the mobile device M wirelessly communicates with one or more of a plurality of wireless networks when the mobile device M is in a corresponding area having wireless coverage provided by each of the one or more networks, each of the plurality of networks having a corresponding plurality of spaced apart stationary network access units, the access units for receiving from and transmitting to the mobile device M wireless signal communication, comprising performing the following by computational equipment:
transmitting a wireless communication between the mobile device M and a first of the plurality of networks, wherein information indicative of the mobile device M is stored in a persistent machine storage, the information used for registering the mobile device M for a wireless service with a first of the plurality of networks; receiving first geolocation related data for the mobile device M, the first geolocation related data obtained using characteristics of wireless signals received at the mobile device M; wherein the first geolocation related data is used to determine whether a first location estimate of the mobile device M is at least one of: (a) ambiguous, (b) cannot be obtained, (c) is not within a desired range of accuracy, and (d) has an extent greater than or equal to a predetermined size; obtaining a second location estimate of the mobile device M wherein the second location estimate is obtained using additional location information obtained at least in part from second data obtained using wireless signals communicated between the mobile device M and a second of the plurality of networks, wherein the mobile device M is not registered for communicating with the second network, and wherein the second network registers mobile devices for communication therewith; outputting resulting location data for the mobile device M, wherein said resulting location data is dependent upon at least one of the first and second estimates of the particular mobile station.Cited by (0)
