Abstract

A coordination server of a contactless payment system may receive a total bill of purchases for a customer from a merchant point-of-sale terminal, associate the total bill of purchases with a unique identifier of an RFID tag of a check presenter, and receive notification that payment of the total bill of purchases is authorized. The coordination server may receive the unique identifier and payment information from a contactless-enabled device, and transmit the payment information and the total bill to the merchant point-of-sale terminal for transmittal to a merchant acquirer for completion of the transaction under business as usual standards. In one embodiment, the coordination server transmits the payment information and the total bill to a merchant acquirer, which then routes the payment request to an appropriate payment network. In another embodiment, the coordination server transmits the payment information and the total bill directly to the appropriate payment network.

Claims

1 - 21 . (canceled)

         22 . A method, comprising:
receiving, by a merchant acquirer system, payment data and transaction data from a coordination server, wherein the coordination server is configured to receive the transaction data from a merchant and the payment data from a mobile device, and wherein the coordination server is configured to determine that the transaction data is associated with the payment data by using an identifier from a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag read by the mobile device; transmitting, by the merchant acquirer system, the payment data and the transaction data to a payment network; and receiving, by the merchant acquirer system and from the payment network, a notification of authorization to charge an amount to a customer specified by the transaction data.

23 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
based on the payment data, the merchant acquirer system selecting the payment network from a plurality of payment networks configured to communicate with the merchant acquirer system.

24 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
transmitting, by the merchant acquirer system, the notification to the coordination server, wherein the coordination server is configured to send confirmation of payment to the mobile device based on the notification.

25 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the RFID tag is included in a check presenter provided to the customer, and wherein the coordination server is configured to receive, from a merchant system, an indication that the identifier is associated with the transaction data, and to store the indication.

26 . The method of claim 25 , wherein the coordination server is configured to locate the transaction data using the identifier as a key.

27 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the payment data includes one or more sources for paying the amount specified by the transaction data.

28 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the coordination server is configured to receive tip information from the mobile device that indicates an additional amount to be included in the transaction data.

         29 . A method, comprising:
an acquirer system receiving, from a server computer system, transaction information indicating a total amount to be charged to a customer and payment information usable to pay the total amount, wherein the server computer system is configured to receive an identifier of a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag and the payment information from a contactless-enabled device, and wherein the server computer system is configured to use the identifier to determine an association between the received transaction information and the received payment information; the acquirer system transmitting the transaction information and the payment information to a payment network; and the acquirer system receiving, from the payment network, an authorization to charge the total amount to the customer.

30 . The method of claim 29 , further comprising:
based on the payment information, the acquirer system determining the payment network from a plurality of payment networks configured to communicate with the acquirer system.

31 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the server computer system is configured to:
receive, from a merchant system, the transaction information and the identifier, wherein the RFID tag is included in a check presenter provided by a merchant to the customer; and store an indication that the identifier is associated with the transaction information.

32 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the transaction information includes an itemized list of purchases and corresponding costs.

33 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the server computer system is configured to receive discount information from the contactless-enabled device, wherein the discount information identifies an amount of reward points to be used to discount the total amount.

34 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the server computer system is configured to receive the identifier and the payment information from the contactless-enable device via a cellular network.

35 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the server computer system is implemented by a merchant point of sale system.

         36 . A method, comprising:
a first computer system receiving, from a second computer system, a total amount to be charged to a plurality of customers and a set of payment information usable to pay the amount, wherein the second computer system is configured to associate the total amount with the set of payment information based on the total amount corresponding to an identifier of a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag, wherein a first customer device is configured to provide the identifier, a first portion of the total amount to be charged to a first customer of the first customer device, and first payment information included in the set of payment information; the first computer system transmitting the first portion of the total amount and the first payment information to a first payment network; and the first computer system receiving, from the first payment network, an authorization to charge the first portion of the total amount to a first customer.

37 . The method of claim 36 , further comprising:
the first computer system sending, to the second computer system, a notification that payment of the first portion of the total amount is authorized.

38 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the second computer system is configured to receive the identifier, a second portion of the total amount, and a second payment information included in the set of payment information from a second customer device; and
the first computer system transmitting the second portion of the total amount and the second payment information to a second payment network.

39 . The method of claim 36 , further comprising:
the first computer system selecting the first payment network from a plurality of payment networks based on the first payment information indicating the first payment network.

40 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the second computer system is configured to communicate with a plurality of back-end servers, and wherein the plurality of back-end servers includes at least one of a loyalty server, a payment server, and an offer management server.

41 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the second computer system is configured to receive the total amount from a merchant point of sale system.
