Animal Hoof Therapeutic Delivery Wrap

Abstract

A modular lower leg and hoof wrap configured to hold one or more therapeutic devices proximate an animal's hoof. The invention is intended primarily for use with horses. The components attach to a sole, which is intended to be positioned beneath the animal's hoof. One or more retention panels extend upward from the sole. A first wrap panel and a second wrap panel also extend upward form the sole. Elastic and VELCRO attachment features are preferably used so that each of the components may be positioned in a suitable location for a particular animal's anatomy. Other closure devices, such as buckles or snaps, could also be used.

Having described our invention, we claim: 
     
         1 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof, wherein said hoof includes a coronary band, a hoof wall having anterior, left lateral, right lateral, and posterior portions, and a hoof sole, comprising:
 a. a sole configured to cover substantially all of said hoof sole;   b. a first retention panel, including,
 i. an inward facing surface, 
 ii. an outward facing surface, 
 iii. a lower portion connected to said sole, and 
 iv. an upward portion that is free; 
   c. said first retention panel being configured to wrap around said hoof well and extend upwards to at least said coronary band;   d. a first therapeutic device configured to attach to said inward facing surface of said first retention panel;   e. a first wrap panel attached to said sole and extending upward therefrom, said first wrap panel having,
 i. a left lateral side with a left attachment panel, 
 ii. a right lateral side with a right attachment panel, 
 iii. said first wrap panel being configured to wrap around a first portion of said hoof and being secured to said first retention panel; and 
   f. a second wrap panel attached to said sole and extending upward therefrom, said second wrap panel having,
 i. a left lateral side with a left attachment panel, 
 ii. a right lateral side with a right attachment panel, 
 iii. said second wrap panel being configured to wrap around a second portion of said hoof; with said left and right attachment panels of said second wrap panel being secured to said first wrap panel. 
   
     
     
         2 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an mimes hoof as recited in  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a. a second retention panel; and   b. wherein said first and second retention panels include VELCRO tabs configured to link said first and second retention panels together.   
     
     
         3 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 2 , wherein said first and second retention panels are configured to completely encircle said hoof and remain in place when said first and second wrap panels are pulled away. 
     
     
         4 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 3 , wherein said therapeutic devices are configured to be removed and replaced without the need to remove said application wrap. 
     
     
         5 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in claim wherein said sole is constructed of a molded polymer. 
     
     
         6 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 5 , wherein said sole includes a wall extending upward at least thirty percent of a distance to said coronary hand. 
     
     
         7 . A. therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 6 , wherein said wall completely encircles said hoof. 
     
     
         8 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 2 , wherein:
 a. said first and second retention panels have outward facing surfaces covered in loop material: and   b. said first and second retention panels include hook tabs configured to engage said loop material and thereby join said first and second retention panels together.   
     
     
         9 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 8 , wherein:
 a. said first wrap panel has an outward facing surface covered in loop material; and   b. said right and left attachment panels on said second wrap panel include inward facing hooks configured to engage said loop material on said outward facing surface of said first wrap panel.   
     
     
         10 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 2 , wherein said first and second retention panels completely encircle said hoof and remain in place when said first and second wrap panels are pulled away. 
     
     
         11 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof, wherein said hoof includes a coronary band, a hoof wall having anterior, left lateral, right lateral, and posterior portions, and a hoof sole, comprising:
 a. a sole configured to cover substantially all of said hoof sole;   b. a first retention panel, including,
 i. an inward facing surface, 
 ii. an outward facing surface, 
 iii. a lower portion connected to said sole, and 
 iv. an upward portion that is free; 
   c. a second retention panel, including,
 i. an inward facing surface, 
 ii. an outward facing surface, 
 iii. a lower portion connected to said sole, and 
 iv. an upward portion that is free; 
   d. said first and second retention panels being configured to wrap around said hoof wall and extend upwards to at least said coronary band;   e. said first and second retention panels being configured to link together;   f. a first therapeutic device configured to attach to said inward facing surface of said first retention panel;   g. a second therapeutic device configured to attach to said inward facing surface of said second retention panel;   h. a first wrap panel attached to said sole and extending upward therefrom, said first wrap panel having,
 i. a left lateral side with a left attachment panel, 
 ii. a right lateral side with a right attachment panel, 
 iii. said first wrap panel being configured to wrap around a first portion of said hoof and being secured to said first retention panel; and 
   i. a second wrap panel attached to said sole and extending upward therefrom, said second wrap panel having,
 i. a left lateral side with a left attachment panel, 
 ii. a right lateral side with a right attachment panel, 
 iii. said second wrap panel being configured to wrap around a second portion of said hoof, with said left and right attachment panels of said second wrap panel being secured to said first wrap panel. 
   
     
     
         12 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 11 , wherein said first and second retention panels include VELCRO tabs configured to link said first and second retention panels together. 
     
     
         13 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 12 , wherein said first and second retention panels are configured to encircle said hoof and remain in place when said first and second wrap panels are pulled away. 
     
     
         14 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 13 , wherein said therapeutic devices are configured to be removed and replaced without the need to remove said application wrap. 
     
     
         15 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recital in  claim 11 , wherein said sole is constructed of a molded polymer. 
     
     
         16 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 15 , wherein said sole includes a wall extending upward at least thirty percent of a distance to said coronary hand. 
     
     
         17 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 16 , wherein said wall completely encircles said hoof. 
     
     
         18 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 11 , wherein:
 a. said first and second retention panels have outward facing surfaces covered in loop material: and   b. said first and second retention panels include hook tabs configured to engage said loop material and thereby join said first and second retention panels together.   
     
     
         19 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 18 , wherein:
 a. said first wrap panel has an outward facing surface covered in loop material; and   b. said right and left attachment panels on said second wrap panel include inward facing hooks configured to engage said loop material on said outward facing surface of said first wrap panel.   
     
     
         20 . A therapeutic device application wrap for an animal's hoof as recited in  claim 11 , wherein said first and second retention panels completely encircle said hoof and remain in place when said anterior and posterior wrap panels are pulled away.
