Abstract
A detergent dispensing cartridge for use in a washing machine. The washing machine is for cleaning a soiled substrate. The treatment of the moistened substrate is with a formulation comprising a multiplicity of polymeric particles. Said formulation is free of organic solvents.

13 . A detergent dispensing cartridge which discharges a formulation into a wash liquor of a washing machine used in cleaning a soiled textile substrate, wherein the said cartridge comprises a formulation comprising a multiplicity of water insoluble polymeric particles, wherein said formulation comprises at least 1% wt. of an organic solvent.
14 . A cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the polymeric particles comprise nylon chips.
15 . A cartridge according to claim 14 , wherein the wherein the polymeric particles comprise Nylon 6 or Nylon 66 chips.
16 . A cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the polymeric particles are formed from at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of: polyalkenes, polyamides, polyesters, polyurethanes and copolymers thereof.
17 . A cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the polymeric particles are formed from at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of: Nylon 6, Nylon 6,6, polyethylene terephthalate, polybutylene terepthalate, and copolymers thereof.
18 . A cartridge according to claim 17 , wherein the polymeric particles are formed from a Nylon 6,6 homopolymer having a molecular weight in the region of from 5000 to 30000 Daltons.
19 . A cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the polymeric particles are formed from a polyester having a molecular weight corresponding to an intrinsic viscosity measurement in the range of from 0.3-1.5 dl/g as measured according to ASTM D-4603.
20 . A cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the polymeric particles are non-swellable in water.
21 . A cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the cartridge has multiple compartments.
22 . A cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the cartridge comprises a plastics material.
23 . A cartridge according to claim 22 , wherein the plastics material of the cartridge is polypropylene or polyethylene.
24 . A cartridge according to claim 21 , wherein each compartment comprises a complete detergent formulation.
25 . A cartridge according to claim 21 , wherein the cartridge compartments are modular.
26 . A cartridge according to claim 21 , wherein each compartment has a volume of from 5 to 5000 cc.
27 . A cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the compartment contents are contained in a secondary packaging.
28 . A cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the compartment contents are refillable.
29 . A cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the formulation contains at least one organic solvent in an amount of up to 10% wt.
30 . A method of treating a moistened soiled substrate comprising the step of:
providing a detergent dispensing cartridge according to claim 13 which comprises a formulation comprising a multiplicity of water insoluble polymeric particles, wherein said formulation comprises at least 1% wt. of an organic solvent, and wherein the formulation with water insoluble polymeric particles is discharged from the detergent dispensing cartridge during a washing operation of an automatic washing machine.
23 . A cartridge according to claim 2 , wherein the wherein the polymeric particles comprise Nylon 6 or Nylon 66 chips.
12 . A cartridge according to claim 9 , wherein the plastics material of the cartridge is polypropylene or polyethylene.
13 . A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the formulation contains at least one organic solvent in an amount of up to 10% wt.
14 . A method according to claim 10 , wherein the formulation contains at least one organic solvent in an amount of up to 10% wt.
15 . A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the polymeric particles are formed from at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of: polyalkenes, polyamides, polyesters, polyurethanes and copolymers thereof.
16 . A cartridge according to claim 15 , wherein the polymeric particles formed from at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of:
Nylon 6, Nylon 6,6, polyethylene terephthalate, polybutylene terepthalate, and copolymers thereof.
17 . A cartridge according to claim 16 , wherein the polymeric particles are formed from a Nylon 6,6 homopolymer having a molecular weight in the region of from 5000 to 30000 Daltons.
18 . A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the polymeric particles are formed from a polyester having a molecular weight corresponding to an intrinsic viscosity measurement in the range of from 0.3-1.5 dl/g as measured according to ASTM D-4603.
