Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for inducing production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The method includes administering, to an individual, a composition including adeno-associated virus (AAV) carrying a hPGIS gene coding for human prostacyclin synthase (hPGIS) which synthesizes prostaglandin

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method for inducing production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), the method comprising: administering, to an individual, a composition comprising an adeno-associated virus (AAV) carrying a hPGIS gene coding for human prostacyclin synthase (hPGIS) which synthesizes prostaglandin I 2 (PGI 2 ).

2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the AAV is of a type selected from the group consisting of type 1, 2, 5 and 8

3 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the AAV is of a type selected from the group consisting of type 1 and 2.

4 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the AAV induces one or more activities selected from the group containing of vasodilation, anti-platelet aggregation and angiogenesis.

5 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises a pharmaceutically permissible carrier containing the AAV, the carrier being selected from the group consisting of water, a water-propylene glycol mixed solution, a buffered solution, and 0.4% saline.

6 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the AAV further carries a second gene coding for an angiogenesis factor selected from the group consisting of genes coding for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and VEGF-2.

7 . The method according to claim 6 , wherein the second gene coding for an angiogenesis factor is a VEGF.

8 . The method according to claim 6 , wherein the AAV induces one or more activities selected from the group containing of vasodilation, anti-platelet aggregation and angiogenesis.

9 . The method according to claim 6 , wherein the composition further comprises a pharmaceutically permissible carrier containing the AAV, the carrier being selected from the group consisting of water, a water-propylene glycol mixed solution, a buffered solution, and 0.4% saline.
