Claims

Abstract

An image capture unit and computer readable medium used in combination therewith. The image capture unit includes an image capturing sensor, a visual display, an instance of the computer readable medium, and circuitry for integrating functionalities thereof. The computer readable medium causes sensor data received from the image capturing sensor to be processed. The sensor data includes a plurality of image tiles and position indicating data defining a respective relative position of each one of each image tiles. Each one of each image tiles includes data representing a discrete portion of visual content. The computer readable medium causes a feedback image be displayed on the visual display. Displaying the feedback image includes correlate the relative position of each one of each image tiles with at least one other image tile that has been previously generated and displayed.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An apparatus, comprising:
 an image capture component configured to receive visual image content from an optical unit, digitize the visual image content, and output digital captured image data;   a sensor unit configured to output position indicating data, and   a data processing unit comprising a processor and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory storing processor-executable instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to correlate a portion of the captured image data to a corresponding portion of the position indicating data using respective information of the captured image data and the position indicating data.   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the position indicating data comprises translational position indicating data that defines movement of a scanner including the optical unit. 
     
     
         3 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a visual display coupled to the data processing unit, wherein the data processing unit is configured to present on the visual display a representation of the captured image data. 
     
     
         4 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the position indicating data and the captured image data each comprise respective synchronization information permitting correlation of the portion of the captured image data to the corresponding portion of the position indicating data by the processor. 
     
     
         5 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the processor-executable instructions include instructions which, when executed by the processor, facilitate resizing of the captured image data. 
     
     
         6 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the processor-executable instructions include instructions which, when executed by the processor, facilitate rotation of the captured image data. 
     
     
         7 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the processor-executable instructions include instructions which, when executed by the processor, facilitate storing of the captured image data. 
     
     
         8 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the processor-executable instructions include instructions which, when executed by the processor, facilitate clearing of the captured image data. 
     
     
         9 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the processor-executable instructions include instructions which, when executed by the processor, facilitate editing of the captured image data. 
     
     
         10 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the image capture component comprises a camera having an array sensor that digitizes the visual image content. 
     
     
         11 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the respective information of the captured image data and the position indicating data includes time stamp data indicating a time at which creation of a position indicating data instance was initiated. 
     
     
         12 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the respective information of the captured image data and the position indicating data includes synchronization data corresponding to a time at which a captured image data instance was initiated. 
     
     
         13 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein correlation of the portion of the captured image data to the corresponding portion of the position indicating data includes deriving a position of the image capture component from an instance of the position indicating data corresponding to a predetermined time. 
     
     
         14 . The apparatus of  claim 13 , wherein the predetermined time is a time at which creation of an instance of the captured image data to be correlated with a position of the instance of the position indicating data was initiated. 
     
     
         15 . The apparatus of  claim 13 , wherein the predetermined time is a time subsequent to a time at which creation of an instance of the captured image data to be correlated with a position of the instance of the position indicating data was initiated. 
     
     
         16 . The apparatus of  claim 13 , wherein the predetermined time is a time at which creation of the instance of the position indicating data was initiated. 
     
     
         17 . The apparatus of  claim 13 , wherein the predetermined time is a time subsequent to a time at which creation of the instance of the position indicating data instance was initiated. 
     
     
         18 . An apparatus, comprising:
 an image capture component configured to receive visual image content from an optical unit, digitize the visual image content, and output digital captured image data;   a sensor unit configured to output position indicating data, and a data processing unit comprising a processor and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory storing processor-executable instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to derive a position of the image capture component from an instance of the position indicating data corresponding to a predetermined time.   
     
     
         19 . The apparatus of  claim 18 , wherein the predetermined time is a time at which creation of an instance of the captured image data to be correlated with a position of the instance of the position indicating data was initiated. 
     
     
         20 . The apparatus of  claim 18 , wherein the predetermined time is a time subsequent to a time at which creation of an instance of the captured image data to be correlated with a position of the instance of the position indicating data was initiated. 
     
     
         21 . The apparatus of  claim 18 , wherein the predetermined time is a time at which creation of the instance of the position indicating data was initiated. 
     
     
         22 . The apparatus of  claim 18 , wherein the predetermined time is a time subsequent to a time at which creation of the instance of the position indicating data instance was initiated.
