Abstract

Provided is a valve, including an in-line flow passage, a shut-off mechanism, and a multi-stage throttling section disposed in the in-line flow passage. Further provided is an in-line valve, including a flow control component and a sealing component, wherein the flow control component and the sealing component are separate from one another.

         21 . A system, comprising:
 a flow passage; and   a throttling section disposed in the flow passage, wherein the throttling section comprises a plurality of layers disposed one after another, each layer of the plurality of layers comprises a plurality of openings, at least one first layer of the plurality of layers comprises a first material that is resistant to wear, and at least one second layer of the plurality of layers comprises a second material that is resistant to cracking.   
     
     
         22 . The system of  claim 21 , wherein the second layer is configured to catch at least a portion of the first layer in the event of failure of the first layer. 
     
     
         23 . The system of  claim 21 , comprising a valve configured to adjust a fluid flow through the flow passage. 
     
     
         24 . The system of  claim 23 , wherein the valve comprises a gate valve. 
     
     
         25 . The system of  claim 21 , wherein at least some of the plurality of openings in adjacent layers of the plurality of layers are misaligned relative to one another. 
     
     
         26 . The system of  claim 21 , wherein at least some of the plurality of openings in the plurality of layers define a plurality of non-straight passages through the throttling section. 
     
     
         27 . The system of  claim 26 , comprising:
 a valve body, comprising:
 the flow passage extending though the valve body; 
 a cavity that intersects the flow passage; 
 a movable gate disposed in the cavity, wherein the movable gate comprises an open portion and a closed portion, and the movable gate is configured to selectively move between an open position having the open portion opening flow through the flow passage and a closed position having the closed portion closing flow through the flow passage; and 
 the throttling section disposed along the flow passage, wherein the plurality of non-straight passages overlap with an opening in the open portion in the open position of the movable gate, and the plurality of non-straight passages overlap with the closed portion in the closed position of the movable gate. 
   
     
     
         28 . The system of  claim 21 , wherein at least some of the plurality of openings vary in size from one layer to another in the plurality of layers. 
     
     
         29 . The system of  claim 21 , wherein at least some of the plurality of layers vary in thickness from one layer to another in the plurality of layers. 
     
     
         30 . The system of  claim 21 , wherein the first material is more resistant to wear than the second material, and the second material is more resistant to cracking than the first material. 
     
     
         31 . A system, comprising:
 a flow passage; and   a throttling section disposed in the flow passage, wherein the throttling section comprises a plurality of layers disposed one after another, wherein each layer of the plurality of layers comprises a plurality of openings, wherein each layer of the plurality of layers comprise at least one of a metal, a ceramic material, or a composite material, wherein at least some of the plurality of openings vary in size from one layer to another in the plurality of layers, at least some of the plurality of layers vary in thickness from one layer to another in the plurality of layers, or a combination thereof.   
     
     
         32 . The system of  claim 31 , wherein at least some of the plurality of openings vary in size from one layer to another in the plurality of layers. 
     
     
         33 . The system of  claim 31 , wherein at least some of the plurality of layers vary in thickness from one layer to another in the plurality of layers. 
     
     
         34 . The system of  claim 31 , wherein at least some of the plurality of layers vary in material composition from one layer to another in the plurality of layers. 
     
     
         35 . The system of  claim 31 , wherein at least one first layer of the plurality of layers comprises a first material that is resistant to wear, and at least one second layer of the plurality of layers comprises a second material that is resistant to cracking.

The valve of  claim 31 , wherein at least some of the plurality of openings in adjacent layers of the plurality of layers are misaligned relative to one another, and at least some of the plurality of openings in the plurality of layers define a plurality of non-straight passages through the throttling section. 
     
     
         37 . The system of  claim 31 , comprising a valve configured to adjust a fluid flow through the flow passage. 
     
     
         38 . The system of  claim 37 , wherein the valve comprises a gate valve. 
     
     
         39 . A system, comprising:
 a flow passage;   a valve comprising an open portion and a closed portion, wherein the valve is configured to selectively move between an open position having the open portion opening flow through the flow passage and a closed position having the closed portion closing flow through the flow passage; and   a throttling section disposed in the flow passage, wherein the throttling section comprises a plurality of layers defining a plurality of non-straight passages, the plurality of non-straight passages overlap with an opening in the open portion in the open position of the valve, and the plurality of non-straight passages overlap with the closed portion in the closed position of the valve.   
     
     
         40 . The system of  claim 39 , wherein the plurality of layers are disposed one after another, each layer of the plurality of layers comprises a plurality of openings, at least some of the plurality of openings in adjacent layers of the plurality of layers are misaligned relative to one another, and at least some of the plurality of openings in the plurality of layers define the plurality of non-straight passages through the throttling section. 
     
     
         41 . The system of  claim 39 , wherein the plurality of non-straight passages comprise at least one passage that extends in a direction that gradually diverges away from an axis of the flow passage over at least three layers of the plurality of layers. 
     
     
         42 . The system of  claim 39 , wherein the plurality of non-straight passages comprise at least one passage that extends in a direction that gradually converges toward an axis of the flow passage over at least three layers of the plurality of layers. 
     
     
         43 . The system of  claim 39 , wherein the valve comprises a gate valve. 
     
     
         44 . The system of  claim 39 , wherein the valve is configured to move along a surface of a first layer of the plurality of layers between the open position and the closed position. 
     
     
         45 . The system of  claim 39 , wherein the plurality of layers are disposed one after another, each layer of the plurality of layers comprises a plurality of openings, and at least some of the plurality of openings vary in size from one layer to another in the plurality of layers. 
     
     
         46 . The system of  claim 39 , wherein the plurality of layers are disposed one after another, each layer of the plurality of layers comprises a plurality of openings, and at least some of the plurality of layers vary in thickness from one layer to another in the plurality of layers. 
     
     
         47 . The system of  claim 39 , wherein at least one first layer of the plurality of layers comprises a first material that is resistant to wear, and at least one second layer of the plurality of layers comprises a second material that is resistant to cracking.
