Payments in communication systems

Abstract

Users of a communication system can initiate electronic payments during a communication session hosted by the communication system or via a social network identity page hosted by the communication system. The communication system detects a payment signal from a user of the communication system and the collects payment information details either by displaying a payment object interface in a communication application of the user or receiving payment information input directly from the user's communication device. The payment information includes sender and recipient payment account identifiers that arc communicated to a payment processing system for processing and delivery of the designated payment amount to the recipient.

         19 . A computer-implemented method to send electronic payments via social networking systems, comprising:
 displaying, by one or more computing devices, a recipient identity page in a social networking application on a sender remote computer device, the recipient identity page displaying a payment object interface;   detecting, by the one or more computing devices, selection of the payment object interface on the recipient identity page by a user associated with the sender remote computing device;   displaying, by the one or more computing devices, a payment information object in the on the recipient identity page, the payment information object comprising fields for receiving payment information from the sender, the payment transaction information comprising at least a sender payment account identifier and a payment amount;   receiving, by the one or more computing devices, the payment transaction information entered by the sender in the payment object;   communicating, by the one or more computing devices, the payment information to a payment processing system, the payment processing settling the payment amount from the sender payment account to a recipient payment account in response to receiving the payment information from the one or more computing devices.   
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 19 , further comprising:
 providing for display, using the one or more computing devices, a payment confirmation interface object to a remote client device associated with the recipient identity page in response to receiving the payment transaction information from the sender remote computing device, the payment confirmation interface object comprising a sender identifier, a payment amount, and a request for a payment acceptance from the recipient; and   receiving, by the one or more computing devices, an acceptance notification from the recipient remote computing device, wherein communicating the payment information to the payment processing system is only completed if an acceptance notification is received from the recipient.   
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 19 , further comprising receiving, by the one or more computing devices, a payment confirmation from the payment processing system; and
 posting the payment confirmation on the recipient identity page.   
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the payment amount is determined by an image capture of a currency banknote, the value of the currency banknote indicating the payment amount.
