Abstract

An aluminum power transmission rail product comprises a profile main component made from molten aluminum onto which a stainless steel cap has been co-cast. Preferably, this main component has a locking feature such as a down-turn on at least one edge of the stainless steel cap. The rail product is preferably cast on a casting unit selected from the group consisting of a horizontal caster, a horizontal DC caster, an MDC caster and a semi-solid casting unit.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An aluminum power transmission rail product, said rail product having a profile main component made from molten aluminum along with which a stainless steel cap has been co-cast. 
     
     
         2 . The rail product of  claim 1  wherein the molten aluminum is from newly made feedstock. 
     
     
         3 . The rail product of  claim 1  wherein the molten aluminum is from recycled feedstock. 
     
     
         4 . The rail product of  claim 1  wherein the stainless steel cap has a locking feature. 
     
     
         5 . The rail product of  claim 1  wherein the locking feature includes a down-turn on at least one edge of the stainless steel cap. 
     
     
         6 . The rail product of  claim 1  wherein the profile has been cast with a casting unit selected from the group consisting of a horizontal caster, a horizontal DC caster, an MDC caster and a semi-solid casting unit. 
     
     
         7 . The rail product of  claim 1  wherein the stainless steel cap is supplied to the cast profile as a continuous belt. 
     
     
         8 . An aluminum power transmission rail product with a stainless steel cap metallurgically-bonded thereon, said rail product having a profile main component made by co-casting a molten aluminum with a stainless steel cap via pultrusion. 
     
     
         9 . The rail product of  claim 8  wherein the molten aluminum is from newly made feedstock. 
     
     
         10 . The rail product of  claim 8  wherein the stainless steel cap has a locking feature.
