Abstract
A polar boss suitable for use in pressurized-gas assemblies. The polar boss includes a longitudinally extending part with a top surface with a recessed opening and a planar bottom surface. A channel extends through the polar boss, communicates with the recessed opening, and terminates at the bottom planar surface to serve as a passageway through the polar boss. A circular groove is provided on the planar bottom surface with inner and outer side walls, with helical threading provided on the inner and outer side walls.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 3 . (canceled)
4 . A polar boss comprising:
a longitudinally extending part that has a top surface with a recessed opening; a planar bottom surface; a channel extending through the polar boss and communicating with the recessed opening and terminating at the bottom planar surface to serve as a passageway through the polar boss; and a circular groove provided on the planar bottom surface; wherein the circular groove comprises an inner side wall and an outer side wall, with a first set of helical threads provided on the inner side wall and a second set of helical threads provided on the outer side wall.
5 . The polar boss of claim 4 wherein the first set of helical threads, the second set of helical threads, or both comprise tapered threading.
6 . The polar boss of claim 5 wherein the tapered threading comprises a taper of about 1.79 degrees.
7 . The polar boss of claim 4 wherein the first set of helical threads, the second set of helical threads, or both are configured to form or cut threads into a raised circular ring of a liner if the polar boss is screwed onto the liner with the raised circular ring engaging within the circular groove.
8 . The polar boss of claim 4 wherein the first set of helical threads, the second set of helical threads, or both comprise straight threading.
9 . The polar boss of claim 4 wherein the channel and the recessed opening are configured to receive a fitting body to hermetically seal the channel along the top surface of the longitudinally extending part.
10 . The polar boss of claim 4 , wherein the polar boss is formed from a metal material.
11 . The polar boss of claim 4 , wherein the polar boss is formed from a plastic material.
12 . The polar boss of claim 7 wherein the polar boss is configured to compress the raised circular ring within the circular groove if the polar boss is screwed onto the liner.Cited by (0)
