Abstract
The invention relates to trans carotenoid salt compounds, methods for making them, methods for solubilizing them and uses thereof. These compounds are useful in improving diffusivity of oxygen between red blood cells and body tissues in mammals including humans.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 60 . (canceled)
61 . A method of treating ischemia in a mammal comprising administering to such mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a composition of synthetic trans sodium crocetinate having the structure:
wherein the purity level of the trans isomer in the composition is such that, under UV-visible analysis, the absorbency of the highest peak which occurs in the visible wave length range divided by the absorbency of the peak which occurs in the UV wave length range is greater than 7.5.
62 . A method according to claim 61 , wherein the ischemia treated is ischemia of the kidney, liver, spinal cord, or brain.
63 . A method according to claim 61 , wherein said absorbency of the highest peak which occurs in the visible wave length range divided by the absorbency of the peak which occurs in the UV wave length range is greater than 8.0.
64 . A method according to claim 61 , wherein said absorbency of the highest peak which occurs in the visible wave length range divided by the absorbency of the peak which occurs in the UV wave length range is about 7.5-8.5.
65 . A method according to claim 61 , wherein said synthetic trans sodium crocetinate is administered at a dose of 0.01-30 mg/kg.
66 . A method according to claim 61 , wherein said administration is by intravenous route.
67 . A method according to claim 61 , wherein said administration is by oral route.
68 . A method according to claim 67 , wherein said composition is in the form of a pill, tablet or capsule.
69 . A method of treating stroke in a mammal comprising administering to such mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a composition of synthetic trans sodium crocetinate having the structure:
wherein the purity level of the trans isomer in the composition is such that, under UV-visible analysis, the absorbency of the highest peak which occurs in the visible wave length range divided by the absorbency of the peak which occurs in the UV wave length range is greater than 7.5.
70 . A method according to claim 69 , wherein the stroke treated is ischemic stroke.
71 . A method according to claim 69 , wherein said absorbency of the highest peak which occurs in the visible wave length range divided by the absorbency of the peak which occurs in the UV wave length range is greater than 8.0.
72 . A method according to claim 69 , wherein said absorbency of the highest peak which occurs in the visible wave length range divided by the absorbency of the peak which occurs in the UV wave length range is about 7.5-8.5.
73 . A method according to claim 69 , wherein said synthetic trans sodium crocetinate is administered at a dose of 0.01-30 mg/kg.
74 . A method according to claim 69 , wherein said administration is by intravenous route.
75 . A method according to claim 69 , wherein said administration is by oral route.
76 . A method according to claim 75 , wherein said composition is in the form of a pill, tablet or capsule.
77 . A method of treating ventricular fibrillation in a mammal comprising administering to such mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a composition of synthetic trans sodium crocetinate having the structure:
wherein the purity level of the trans isomer in the composition is such that, under UV-visible analysis, the absorbency of the highest peak which occurs in the visible wave length range divided by the absorbency of the peak which occurs in the UV wave length range is greater than 7.5.
78 . A method according to claim 77 , wherein the stroke treated is ischemic stroke.
79 . A method according to claim 77 , wherein said absorbency of the highest peak which occurs in the visible wave length range divided by the absorbency of the peak which occurs in the UV wave length range is greater than 8.0.
80 . A method according to claim 77 , wherein said absorbency of the highest peak which occurs in the visible wave length range divided by the absorbency of the peak which occurs in the UV wave length range is about 7.5-8.5.
81 . A method according to claim 77 , wherein said synthetic trans sodium crocetinate is administered at a dose of 0.01-30 mg/kg.
82 . A method according to claim 77 , wherein said administration is by intravenous route.
83 . A method according to claim 77 , wherein said administration is by oral route.
84 . A method according to claim 83 , wherein said composition is in the form of a pill, tablet or capsule.Cited by (0)
