Abstract
A bone repair composition including a cancellous bone matrix with cortical and/or cancellous bone particles loaded therein; and a kit comprising the cancellous bone matrix and the cortical and/or cancellous bone particles.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A bone repair composition, comprising: a cancellous bone matrix; and demineralized bone particles.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 , further comprising an excipient.
. The bone repair composition of claim 2 , wherein the excipient solution is selected from the group consisting of glycerol, ethanol, lecithin, sucrose, and combinations thereof.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 , further comprising an additive selected from the group consisting of bone marrow cells, mesenchymal stem cells, oxygenating materials, oxygen generating compounds, growth factors, antibiotics, anti-neoplastic agents, and combinations thereof.
. The bone repair composition of claim 4 , wherein the oxygen generating compounds are selected from the group consisting of perchlorates, percarbonates, perborates, and peroxides,
. The bone repair composition of claim 4 , wherein the oxygenating materials comprise a perfluorocarbon.
. The bone repair composition of claim 6 , wherein the perfluorocarbon is perfluorodecalin, perfluorohexane, perfluorotributylamine, and/or perfluoroperhydrophenanthrene.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 , wherein the demineralized bone particles are dispersed within the matrix.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 , wherein the demineralized bone particles are in the form of a powder.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 , wherein the cancellous bone matrix is demineralized.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 wherein the bone particles are demineralized cortical bone.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 wherein the demineralized bone particles are a mixture of cortical and cancellous bone.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 wherein the demineralized bone particles are uniformly dispersed throughout the cancellous bone matrix.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 wherein the demineralized bone particles are non-uniformly dispersed throughout the cancellous bone matrix such that a region around the edges of the cancellous bone matrix are free of demineralized bone particles.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 wherein the demineralized bone particles are disc-shaped or rod-shaped, or are fibers, or combinations thereof.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 wherein the outer edges of the cancellous matrix are coated with a material to retain the demineralized bone particles.
. The bone repair composition of claim 16 wherein the coating is selected from the group consisting of water soluble polymers, collagen, gelatin, and combinations thereof.
. The bone repair composition of claim 17 wherein the water soluble polymers are selected from the group polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylic acid, polyacrylamide, polyethylene glycol, polyethylene-propylene glycol, dextran, xanthum gum, carrageenan, carboxymethyl cellulose, hyaluronic acid, and combinations thereof.
. The bone repair composition of claim 1 , further comprising an excipient, wherein the excipient is infused within the matrix to render it flexible.
. The bone repair composition of claim 19 , wherein the excipient is selected from the group consisting of glycerol, lecithin, sucrose, trehalose and combinations thereof.
