Abstract
A method comprises the steps of: transmitting a map request from a client computer to a server; receiving in the client computer data representing a map from a map server; receiving, in the client computer, dynamic, location-based data from a content provider separately from the data representing the map; generating within the client computer a rendering of the dynamic, location-based data overlaid on the map; and displaying the rendering on the client computer.

25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein said map information comprises route information from the first geographic location to each second geographic location on.
26 . The method of claim 24 , further comprising:
receiving, from the user, an input providing a request for a second type of geographic information; identifying a second database comprising a second type of map information corresponding to said second type of information; and searching said second database, such that said search results in identification of a set of second map information comprising data corresponding entities of said second type.
27 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising:
updating the visual map display with said second map information, said updating comprising additionally displaying on said map result said second map information at locations associated with each second type entity.
28 . The method of claim 27 , wherein said updated visual map display comprises route information from the first and second geographic locations to each second type entity location.
29 . The method of claim 24 , wherein each second geographic location corresponds to a different type of entity.
30 . The method of claim 24 , wherein said request further comprises information indicating a predefined radius around said first geographic location, wherein said visual map display is in accordance with said predefined radius.
31 . The method of claim 30 , wherein said type of said second locations are based on said predefined radius.
32 . The method of claim 24 , wherein said overlaid retrieved information is displayed as interactive icons, wherein said interactive icons enable, upon selection, retrieval of additional content associated with each second location from said remote network locations.
33 . The method of claim 24 , further comprising:
receiving information related to user interactions respective to portions of the displayed map within the UI; and dynamically searching for third map information based on said user interaction information.
34 . A computing device, comprising:
a processor; a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for tangibly storing thereon program logic for execution by the processor, the program logic comprising:
logic executed by the processor for receiving, at the computing device, a request from a user for visual display of a map associated with a first geographic location, said request comprising information indicating a type of said first geographic location and data indicating a physical location of said first geographic location;
logic executed by the processor for identifying, via the computing device, a database comprising a type of map information corresponding to said type of first geographic location identified in said request;
logic executed by the processor for searching, via the computing device, said identified database based on request data, said search providing a map result comprising a set of map information including said first geographic location and a set of second geographic locations;
logic executed by the processor for retrieving, via the computing device over a network, information associated with each geographic location included in said map information, said retrieving comprising searching for and identifying from remote network locations associated with each geographic location, said information, said information for each geographic location comprising content associated with an entity at each respective geographic location;
logic executed by the processor for generating, via the computing device, a visual display of said map based on the retrieved information and the map result, said visual map display comprising said map information overlaid with said retrieved information such that the retrieved information is displayed in accordance with its respective physical locations depicted by the map result; and
logic executed by the processor for communicating, via the computing device, said generated visual map display to said user for display within a user interface (UI) of a device of the first user.
35 . The computing device of claim 34 , wherein said map information comprises route information from the first geographic location to each second geographic location on.
36 . The computing device of claim 34 , further comprising:
logic executed by the processor for receiving, from the user, an input providing a request for a second type of geographic information; logic executed by the processor for identifying a second database comprising a second type of map information corresponding to said second type of information; logic executed by the processor for searching said second database, such that said search results in identification of a set of second map information comprising data corresponding entities of said second type; and logic executed by the processor for updating the visual map display with said second map information, said updating comprising additionally displaying on said map result said second map information at locations associated with each second type entity, wherein said updated visual map display comprises route information from the first and second geographic locations to each second type entity location.
37 . The computing device of claim 34 , wherein each second geographic location corresponds to a different type of entity.
38 . The computing device of claim 34 , wherein said request further comprises information indicating a predefined radius around said first geographic location, wherein said visual map display is in accordance with said predefined radius.
39 . The computing device of claim 38 , wherein said type of said second locations are based on said predefined radius.
40 . The computing device of claim 34 , wherein said overlaid retrieved information is displayed as interactive icons, wherein said interactive icons enable, upon selection, retrieval of additional content associated with each second location from said remote network locations.
41 . The computing device of claim 34 , further comprising:
logic executed by the processor for receiving information related to user interactions respective to portions of the displayed map within the UI; and logic executed by the processor for dynamically searching for third map information based on said user interaction information.
42 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium tangibly encoded with computer-executable instructions, that when executed by a computing device, perform a method comprising:
receiving, at the computing device, a request from a user for visual display of a map associated with a first geographic location, said request comprising information indicating a type of said first geographic location and data indicating a physical location of said first geographic location; identifying, via the computing device, a database comprising a type of map information corresponding to said type of first geographic location identified in said request; searching, via the computing device, said identified database based on request data, said search providing a map result comprising a set of map information including said first geographic location and a set of second geographic locations; retrieving, via the computing device over a network, information associated with each geographic location included in said map information, said retrieving comprising searching for and identifying from remote network locations associated with each geographic location, said information, said information for each geographic location comprising content associated with an entity at each respective geographic location; generating, via the computing device, a visual display of said map based on the retrieved information and the map result, said visual map display comprising said map information overlaid with said retrieved information such that the retrieved information is displayed in accordance with its respective physical locations depicted by the map result; and communicating, via the computing device, said generated visual map display to said user for display within a user interface (UI) of a device of the first user.
