Abstract
Embodiments of the invention include a method for determining the health of a storage network of electronic devices. In some embodiments, the method may include determining a data size of a catalogue of data items stored in one or more electronic devices within a network of electronic devices; determining a storage capacity of the network of electronic devices; determining a storage health of the network of electronic devices based on the data size of the catalogue of data items and the storage capacity of the one or more electronic devices; and outputting the storage health of the network of electronic devices.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . (canceled)
2 . A method for operating a storage network, comprising:
determining health of the storage network based on a size of a catalogue of data items stored in the storage network, a storage capacity of the storage network, and whether a replication goal has been achieved, the replication goal indicative a level of backup of the data items in the storage network; and displaying a health status of the storage network indicative the determined health, the status including one of a first status indicating that the replication goal has been achieved, a second status indicating that the replication goal has not been achieved but the storage system has sufficient storage space for achieving the replication goal, and a third status indicating that the replication goal has not been achieved and the storage system has insufficient storage space for achieving the replication goal.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein displaying the health status of the storage network comprises displaying different colors each associated with one of the first, second, and third statuses.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein displaying the health status of the storage network comprises:
displaying message text indicative of the health status; and displaying additional information related to the health status of the storage network in response to the displayed message text being tapped on.
5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein determining the health of the storage network comprises:
determining a replication factor indicating a number of copies of the data items to achieve the replication goal; and determining whether the size of the catalogue of data items stored in the storage network and the storage capacity of the storage network allow for the replication factor to be applied to the data items to achieve the replication goal.
6 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising determining the storage capacity of the storage network based on the replication factor and a sum of device storage capacities of electronic devices of the storage network.
7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein determining the health of the storage network further comprises determining the health of the storage network based on an amount of time each device of electronic devices of the storage network is not connected to the storage network.
8 . The method of claim 5 , wherein determining the health of the storage network further comprises determining the health of the storage network based on a type of each device of electronic devices of the storage network.
9 . An electronic device in a storage network including one or more other electronic devices, comprising:
a storage block; a communication module configured to communicate with the one or more other electronic devices; and a processor communicatively coupled with the storage block and the communication module, the processor configured to:
determine health of the storage network based on a size of a catalogue of data items stored in the storage block and the one or more other electronic devices, a sum of storage capacities of the storage block and the one or more other electronic devices, and whether a replication goal has been achieved, the replication goal indicative a level of backup of the data items in the storage network; and
display a health status of the storage network indicative the determined health, the status including one of a first status indicating that the replication goal has been achieved, a second status indicating that the replication goal has not been achieved but the storage system has sufficient storage space for achieving the replication goal, and a third status indicating that the replication goal has not been achieved and the storage system has insufficient storage space for achieving the replication goal.
10 . The electronic device of claim 9 , comprising a cloud storage server.
11 . The electronic device of claim 9 , comprising a mobile phone.
12 . The electronic device of claim 9 , further comprising a display, wherein the processor is further configured to display a textual message indicative of the storage health on the display, the text message selected from different textual messages each associated with one of the first, second, and third statuses.
13 . The electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to displaying additional information in response to the displayed text message being tapped on, the additional information related to the determined health.
14 . The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the processor is further configured to display a color on the display, the color selected from different colors each associated with one of the first, second, and third statuses.
15 . The electronic device of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to:
determine a replication factor indicating a number of copies of the data items to achieve the replication goal; and determine whether the size of the catalogue of data items stored in the storage network and the storage capacity of the storage network allow for the replication factor to be applied to the data items to achieve the replication goal.
16 . The electronic device of claim 15 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine the storage capacity of the storage network using the replication factor and a sum of device storage capacities of the electronic device and the one or more other storage devices.
17 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including instructions, which when executed by a storage network, cause the storage network to perform operations comprising:
determining health of the storage network based on a size of a catalogue of data items stored in the storage network, a storage capacity of the storage network, and whether a replication goal has been achieved, the replication goal indicative a level of backup of the data items in the storage network; and displaying a health status of the storage network indicative the determined health, the status including one of a first status indicating that the replication goal has been achieved, a second status indicating that the replication goal has not been achieved but the storage system has sufficient storage space for achieving the replication goal, and a third status indicating that the replication goal has not been achieved and the storage system has insufficient storage space for achieving the replication goal.
18 . The non-transitory computer-readable media according to claim 17 , wherein displaying the health status of the storage network comprises displaying different colors each associated with one of the first, second, and third statuses.
19 . The non-transitory computer-readable media according to claim 18 , wherein displaying the health status of the storage network comprises:
displaying message text indicative of the health status; and displaying additional information related to the health status of the storage network in response to the displayed message text being tapped on.
20 . The non-transitory computer-readable media according to claim 17 , wherein determining the health of the storage comprises:
