System for personal authorization control for card transactions
Abstract
An authorization system allows for cardholder-provided parameters to a personal authorization subsystem. The parameters can be selected by the cardholder to limit the authorizations that would otherwise be granted on the card. The parameters can indicate limits by frequency, dollar amount, merchant, geographic location, time of day, combinations thereof, or the like. Authorization for a given transaction, even where authorized by an issuer and a network operator, might be denied based on self-constraints set by the cardholder. In some variations, messages are sent to the cardholder based on constraints set by the cardholder and transactions might be approved and messaged, or denied and messaged.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 .- 2 . (canceled)
3 . A method comprising:
receiving, by an authorization processor, an authorization request including details of a transaction, the authorization processor coupled to an authorization subprocessor, wherein the authorization subprocessor compares a plurality of user selected authorization parameters and constraints with the details of the transaction during the transaction and approves or denies the transaction based on the comparison, the plurality of user selected authorization parameters and constraints selected by the user through an interface, wherein if the transaction details exceed the user selected authorization parameters and constraints, the transaction is always denied, wherein the authorization subprocessor further compares the plurality of user selected authorization parameters and constraints with the details of the transaction and sends a notification to the user based on the comparison, wherein the notification is sent only if the transaction is denied; and transmitting, by the authorization processor, an authorization response indicating whether the transaction is approved or denied.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the authorization request for the transaction comes from a POS terminal.
5 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the authorization request for the transaction comes from a POS terminal via a transaction processing network and an issuer.
6 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the user uses a smartcard to conduct the transaction.
7 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the user selected authorization parameters and constraints are arbitrarily selectable by the user on the interface.
8 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the authorization response is transmitted to a POS terminal.
9 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the authorization processor applies issuer authorization rules to the authorization request.
10 . An authorization processor comprising:
a processor; and a computer readable medium, the computer readable medium comprising code, executable by the processor for implementing a method comprising
receiving an authorization request including details of a transaction from an authorization subprocessor, wherein the authorization subprocessor compares a plurality of user selected authorization parameters and constraints with the details of the transaction during the transaction and approves or denies the transaction based on the comparison, the plurality of user selected authorization parameters and constraints selected by the user through an interface, wherein if the transaction details exceed the user selected authorization parameters and constraints, the transaction is always denied, wherein the authorization subprocessor further compares the plurality of user selected authorization parameters and constraints with the details of the transaction and sends a notification to the user based on the comparison, wherein the notification is sent only if the transaction is denied; and
transmitting an authorization response indicating whether the transaction is approved or denied.
11 . The authorization processor of claim 10 , wherein the authorization request for the transaction comes from a POS terminal.
12 . The authorization processor of claim 10 , wherein the authorization request for the transaction comes from a POS terminal via a transaction processing network and an issuer.
13 . The authorization processor of claim 10 , wherein the user uses a smartcard to conduct the transaction.
14 . The authorization processor of claim 10 , wherein the user selected authorization parameters and constraints are arbitrarily selectable by the user on the interface.
15 . The authorization processor of claim 10 , wherein the authorization response is transmitted to a POS terminal.
16 . The authorization processor of claim 10 , wherein the authorization processor applies issuer authorization rules to the authorization request.
17 . A method comprising:
receiving, by an authorization subprocessor, an authorization request for a transaction conducted by a user, the authorization request including details of the transaction, comparing, by the authorization subprocessor a plurality of user selected authorization parameters and constraints with details of the transaction during the transaction, the plurality of user selected authorization parameters and constraints selected by the user through an interface; if the transaction details exceed the user selected authorization parameters and constraints, the transaction is always denied, if the transaction details do not exceed the user selected authorization parameters and constraints, then allowing an authorization processor to approve or deny the transaction based on a comparison of the details of the transaction and issuer specified criteria; and sending a notification to the user based on the comparing only if the transaction is denied.
18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the authorization request for the transaction comes from a POS terminal.
19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the authorization request for the transaction comes from a POS terminal via a transaction processing network and an issuer.
20 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the user uses a smartcard to conduct the transaction.Cited by (0)
