Abstract

A differential pre-cone rotary wing arrangement includes a first rotor assembly having a first set of rotor blades rotatable about an axis, the first set of rotor blades having a first pre-cone angle, and a second rotor assembly having a second set of rotor blades rotatable about the axis, the second set of rotor blades having a second pre-cone angle, the second pre-cone angle is different than the first pre-cone angle.

1 . A rotary wing arrangement comprising:
 a first rotor assembly having a first set of rotor blades rotatable about an axis, the first set of rotor blades having a first pre-cone angle measured between the blades of the first rotor assembly and a plane parallel to a blade tip path plane defined by the blades of the first rotor assembly; and   a second rotor assembly having a second set of rotor blades rotatable about the axis, the second set of rotor blades having a second pre-cone angle measured between the blades of the second rotor assembly and a plane parallel to a blade tip path plane defined by the blades of the second rotor assembly, the second pre-cone angle being different than the first pre-cone angle.   
     
     
         2 . The rotary wing arrangement of  claim 1 , wherein the first set of rotor blades rotate in a direction opposite to that of the second set of rotor blades. 
     
     
         3 . The rotary wing arrangement of  claim 1 , wherein the first rotor assembly is positioned above the second rotor assembly. 
     
     
         4 . The rotary wing arrangement of  claim 1 , wherein the first pre-cone angle is greater than the second pre-cone angle. 
     
     
         5 . The rotary wing arrangement of  claim 1 , wherein the difference in the first pre-cone angle and the second pre-cone angle is in a range of about ½ to 1½ degrees. 
     
     
         6 . The rotary wing arrangement of  claim 1 , wherein the first rotor assembly is positioned nearer to the second rotor assembly than would be possible if the first pre-cone angle and the second pre-cone angle were the same. 
     
     
         7 . The rotary wing arrangement of  claim 1 , wherein a distance between the first rotor assembly and the second rotor assembly is in a range of 2.0 to 2.5 feet. 
     
     
         8 . The rotary wing arrangement of  claim 1 , wherein a distance between the first rotor assembly and the second rotor assembly is in a range of 2.1 to 2.4 feet. 
     
     
         9 . The rotary wing arrangement of  claim 1 , wherein the first set of blades are rigidly attached to the first rotor assembly and the second set of rotor blades are rigidly attached to the second rotor assembly. 
     
     
         10 . The rotary wing arrangement  claim 1 , wherein at least one fairing covers a rotor hub of at least one of the first rotor assembly and the second rotor assembly. 
     
     
         11 . The rotary wing arrangement of  claim 1 , wherein the blade tip path plane defined by the blades of the first rotor assembly is substantially perpendicular to the axis. 
     
     
         12 . The rotary wing arrangement of  claim 1 , wherein the blade tip path plane defined by the blades of the second rotor assembly is substantially perpendicular to the axis. 
     
     
         13 . An aircraft comprising:
 an airframe;   an extending tail; and   differential pre-cone rotary wing arrangement of any of  claims 1 - 12 .
