Abstract

A method, using a mobile device, of initiating the processing of a transaction for a parking session between a parking system and a payment provider on behalf of a user, the method comprising storing a user identifier in memory on the mobile device, receiving a parking identifier and transmitting the user identifier and the parking identifier to a network server.

What is claimed: 
     
         1 . An electronic data processing system for identifying vehicles by monitoring traffic comprising:
 a monitoring system configured to:
 receive a set of image data of a plurality of vehicles at a location; and 
 electronically generate, from the image data, vehicle feature data and associated location data; and 
   an enforcement system configured to:
 receive the vehicle feature data; 
 store the vehicle feature data as first stored vehicle feature data; 
 store the associated location data; and 
 compare the first stored vehicle feature data with second stored vehicle feature data. 
   
     
     
         2 . The electronic data processing system of  claim 1 , further comprising a violation system for generating a citation. 
     
     
         3 . The electronic data processing system of  claim 1 , further comprising a billing system for assessing a charge. 
     
     
         4 . The electronic data processing system of  claim 1 , wherein the monitoring system includes a video data system. 
     
     
         5 . The electronic data processing system of  claim 1 , wherein the enforcement system is further configured to provide notification data to authorities. 
     
     
         6 . The electronic data processing system of  claim 1 , further comprising a jurisdiction system for generating jurisdiction notification data if the first stored vehicle feature data matches the second stored vehicle feature data. 
     
     
         7 . An electronic data processing system for identifying vehicles by monitoring traffic comprising:
 a monitoring system configured to:
 receive a single set of image data of a plurality of vehicles at a location; and 
 electronically generate vehicle feature data from the image data; 
   a plurality of monitoring stations activatable as a function of the vehicle feature data and associated location data, and the plurality of monitoring stations configured to determine whether the vehicle feature data has been detected; and   an enforcement system configured to:
 receive the vehicle feature data; 
 store the vehicle feature data as first stored vehicle feature data; 
 store the associated location data; and 
 compare the first stored vehicle feature data with second stored vehicle feature data. 
   
     
     
         8 . The electronic data processing system of  claim 7 , further comprising a violation system for generating a citation.

         12 . The electronic data processing system of  claim 7 , further comprising a jurisdiction system for generating jurisdiction notification data if the first stored vehicle feature data matches the second stored vehicle feature data. 
     
     
         13 . A method for monitoring vehicular activity using electronic data processing equipment comprising:
 receiving, in an electronic format, one set of image data of a plurality of vehicles having respective locations;   electronically extracting identifying feature data from the image data;   transmitting the identifying feature data and data of a first location to a tracking system;   comparing the identifying feature data with identifying feature data obtained from a second location; and   if the identifying feature data matches the identifying feature data obtained from the second location, then generating an alert including:
 activating a plurality of monitoring stations in a vicinity of a location of one of the plurality of vehicles that is associated with the identifying feature data; and 
 determining whether the identifying feature data has been detected at one of the plurality of monitoring stations. 
   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13  wherein the electronically extracting of the identifying feature data from the image data comprises extracting license tag data. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 13  wherein the first location and the second location are determined from the image data. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15  wherein the electronically extracting of the identifying feature data from the image data comprises extracting license tag data. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 13  wherein the set of image data of the plurality of vehicles is obtained at an intersection. 
     
     
         18 . A computer-implemented method for monitoring vehicular activity comprising:
 identifying a set of locations for monitoring;   receiving, in an electronic format, one set of image data of a plurality of vehicles, each at a first associated location;   extracting identifying feature data from the image data of one of the plurality of vehicles;   comparing the identifying feature data from a first location with stored identifying feature data from a second location, and the comparing further including determining the first location and the second location from the image data;   generating an alert if the identifying feature data matches stored identifying feature data; and   electronically storing the identifying feature data in a list.   
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 18  wherein the extracting of the identifying feature data from the image data comprises extracting license tag data. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 18  further comprising:
 receiving radio frequency tag data from one or more of the plurality of vehicles; and 
 assessing a charge based on the radio frequency tag data. 
 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 20  further comprising assessing a second charge based on the identifying feature data.
