Cable lug comprising a nut or functional part, method for the production of such a cable lug, and nut
Abstract
A cable lug or functional part in combination with a nut is provided. The cable lug or functional part has a tubular receiving portion for a cable, an integrally formed flat part connecting portion connected to the tubular receiving portion, the flat part connecting portion having a hole therethrough defined by a wall said hole having a central axis. The nut includes a body having an undercut. The nut is held captively and rotatably on the flat part connecting portion. The nut does not pass through the flat part connecting portion is held by a reshaped holding material portion of the flat part connecting portion which projects into the undercut. The reshaped holding material portion is accommodated in the undercut, and an axial clearance is provided between the reshaped holding material and the wall which defines the hole.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . Nut which inserted into a hole in a workpiece, comprising:
a body having an upper portion and a lower portion and defining a centerline extending through the upper portion and the lower portion, the body having a periphery; an undercut formed in the lower portion of the body, the undercut radially opening in an axial direction of the body, the undercut formed of an upper delimiting surface extending from the outer surface such that an upper edge of the outer surface is positioned radially outside the undercut, the upper delimiting surface continuously encircles the body, and the undercut further being formed of a lower delimiting surface which continuously encircles the body and is angled relative to the centerline of the body, wherein, in the undercut is received a cold flow of metal of the workpiece and wherein the nut is rotatable within the workpiece while being secured against substantial axial displacement relative to the workpiece, and wherein the nut is devoid of prongs.
2 . The nut according to claim 1 , wherein the body has a central passageway which is threaded with a plurality of threads, and the undercut does not overlap the threads in a radial direction.
3 . The nut according to claim 1 , wherein the upper portion has a planar pressing area is planar.
4 . The nut according to claim 1 , wherein the undercut includes an intermediate delimiting surface between the upper delimiting surface and the lower delimiting surface, the intermediate delimiting surface being parallel to the centerline, such that a radial extent is defined as the radial distance between the intermediate delimiting surface and an outer end of the lower delimiting surface.
5 . A method comprising:
providing a cable lug having a tubular receiving portion and an integrally formed flat part connecting portion connected to the tubular receiving portion, the tubular receiving portion configured to receive a cable, the flat part connecting portion having a hole therethrough defined by a wall, the hole having a central axis;
providing a functional part comprising a body having a surface forming an undercut;
inserting the functional part into the hole in the flat part connecting portion, wherein the functional part does not pass through the flat part connecting portion, wherein during the insertion the functional part reshapes a portion of the flat connecting portion to form a reshaped holding material portion and the reshaped holding material portion projects into the undercut,
wherein after insertion an axial clearance is provided between the reshaped holding material portion and the surface which forms the undercut and the functional part is captively and rotatably held on the flat part connecting portion.Cited by (0)
