Abstract

A pocket tank top is provided. The tank top comprises a rear pocket formed by a patch attached to the tank top material. The pocket may preferably be on an inner body facing surface of the tank top. Further, front waist level pockets may be provided. The tank top may include a built in bra, such as a shelf bra, cup bra, or sports bra.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A pocket tank top assembly comprising:
 a tank top having a front and rear torso portion, chest covering, and two shoulder straps, the front and rear torso potion configured to continuously cover a torso of a wearer, the shoulder straps defining arm holes and a head hole;   a rear patch attached to a surface of the rear torso portion by stitching about at least three sides of the patch, the patch, stitching, and rear torso portion defining a rear pocket; and   a personal item positioned in the rear pocket, the personal item being one of a cellular telephone, a handheld electronic device, a medical device, a medicine, a cosmetic, keys, money, a card, and sporting equipment.   
     
     
         2 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 1  further comprising:
 a first front patch attached to a surface of the front torso portion below the chest covering by stitching about at least three sides of the patch, stitching, and front torso portion defining a first front pocket. 
 
     
     
         3 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 2  further comprising:
 a second front patch attached to a surface of the front torso portion below the chest covering by stitching about at least three sides of the patch, stitching, and front torso portion defining a first front pocket. 
 
     
     
         4 . The pocket garment system of  claim 1  wherein the rear pocket further comprises stitching about an entirety of a perimeter of the rear patch, and wherein the patch forms a slit opening in its surface, the slit opening providing access to the pocket. 
     
     
         5 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 4  further comprising an elastic about at least one side of the slit opening. 
     
     
         6 . The pocket garment system of  claim 1  further comprising a quantity of piping along a top edge of the patch that defines an opening to the pocket. 
     
     
         7 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 1  further comprising a closure assembly configured to close an opening of the rear pocket. 
     
     
         8 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 1  further comprising a flap connected at a first end to the rear torso portion adjacent to a top edge of the patch that defines an opening, the flap extending over a front face of the patch and covering the top edge, a first side edge of the flap attached to the rear torso portion adjacent to a first side edge of the rear patch, a second side edge of the flap attached to the rear torso portion adjacent to a second side edge of the rear patch. 
     
     
         9 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 1  wherein the chest portion comprises a bra built into the tank top. 
     
     
         10 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 1  wherein the patch is positioned on an inner, body facing side of the rear-torso portion. 
     
     
         11 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 1  further comprising a side pocket positioned adjacent to one of the two arm holes, the side pocket comprising a patch attached to one of the inside and the outside surface of the tank top, the patch defining an opening facing the one of the two arm holes. 
     
     
         12 . A pocket tank top assembly comprising:
 a tank top having a front and rear torso portion, a chest covering, and two shoulder straps, the front and rear torso potion configured to continuously cover a torso of a wearer, the shoulder straps defining arm holes and a head hole;   a rear patch attached to a surface of the rear torso portion by stitching about at least three sides of the patch, the patch, stitching, and rear torso portion defining a rear pocket;   a first personal item positioned in the rear pocket, the first personal item being one of a cellular telephone, handheld electronic device, medical devices, a medicine, a cosmetic, keys, money, a card, and sporting equipment;   a first front patch attached to a surface of the front torso portion below the chest covering by stitching about at least three sides of the patch, stitching, and front torso portion defining a first front pocket; and   a second personal item positioned in the front pocket, the second personal item being one of a cellular telephone, handheld electronic device, medical devices, a medicine, a cosmetic, keys, money, a card, and sporting equipment.   
     
     
         13 . The pocket garment system of  claim 12  further comprising a side pocket positioned adjacent to one of the two arm holes, the side pocket comprising a patch attached to one of the inside and the outside surface of the tank top, the patch defining an opening facing the one of the two arm holes. 
     
     
         14 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 12  further comprising a flap connected at a first end to the rear torso portion adjacent to a top edge of the patch that defines an opening, the flap extending over a front face of the patch and covering the top edge, a first side edge of the flap attached to the rear torso portion adjacent to a first side edge of the rear patch, a second side edge of the flap attached to the rear torso portion adjacent to a second side edge of the rear patch. 
     
     
         15 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 12  further comprising a zipper or other form of closure assembly configured to open and close an opening of the rear pocket. 
     
     
         16 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 12  wherein the chest portion comprises a bra built into the tank top. 
     
     
         17 . A pocket tank top assembly comprising:
 a tank top having a front and rear torso portion, and a chest covering, the front and rear torso portion configured to continuously cover a torso of a wearer, the shoulder straps defining arm holes and a head hole;   a first front patch attached to a surface of the front torso portion below the chest covering by stitching about at least three sides of the patch, stitching, and front torso portion defining a first front pocket;   a second front patch attached to a surface of the front torso portion below the chest covering by stitching about at least three sides of the patch, stitching, and front torso portion defining a second front pocket; and   a personal item positioned in at least one of the first front pocket and second front pocket, the personal item being one of a cellular telephone, handheld electronic device, medical devices, a medicine, a cosmetic, keys, money, a card, and sporting equipment.   
     
     
         18 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 17  further comprising a closure assembly configured to close an opening of the front pocket. 
     
     
         19 . A pocket tank top assembly comprising:
 a tank top having a front and rear torso portion, a chest covering, and two shoulder straps, the front and rear torso potion configured to continuously cover a torso of a wearer, the shoulder straps defining arm holes and a head hole;   a rear pocket, the rear pocket formed of two fabric layers separate from the rear torso portion, the two fabric layers joined together at bottom and two side edges, a top edge of each of the two fabric layers attached to the rear torso portion, the top edge of each of the two fabric layers defining an opening to the rear pocket, a slit formed in the rear torso portion in communication with a spacing between the top edges of each of the two fabric layers; and   a personal item positioned in the rear pocket, the first personal item being one of a cellular telephone, handheld electronic device, medical devices, a medicine, a cosmetic, keys, money, a card, and sporting equipment.   
     
     
         20 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 19  further comprising a side pocket positioned adjacent to one of the two arm holes, the side pocket comprising two fabric layers separate from a material of at least of the front torso portion and rear torso portion, the two fabric layers joined together at bottom and two side edges, a top edge of each of the two fabric layers attached to the material of at least of the front torso portion and rear torso portion, the top edge of each of the two fabric layers defining an opening to the side pocket, a slit formed in the material of at least of the front torso portion and rear torso portion in communication with a spacing between the top edges of each of the two fabric layers. 
     
     
         21 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 19  further comprising a closure assembly configured to close the opening of the rear pocket. 
     
     
         22 . A pocket tank top assembly comprising:
 a tank top having a front and rear torso portion, a chest covering, and two shoulder straps, the front and rear torso potion configured to continuously cover a torso of a wearer, the shoulder straps defining arm holes and a head hole;   a front pocket, the front pocket formed of two fabric layers separate from the front torso portion, the two fabric layers joined together at bottom and two side edges, a top edge of each of the two fabric layers attached to the front torso portion, the top edge of each of the two fabric layers defining an opening to the front pocket, a slit formed in the front torso portion in communication with a spacing between the top edges of each of the two fabric layers; and   a personal item positioned in the front pocket, the second personal item being one of a cellular telephone, handheld electronic device, medical devices, a medicine, a cosmetic, keys, money, a card, and sporting equipment.   
     
     
         23 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 22  further comprising a side pocket positioned adjacent to one of the two arm holes, the side pocket comprising two fabric layers separate from a material of at least of the front torso portion and rear torso portion, the two fabric layers joined together at bottom and two side edges, a top edge of each of the two fabric layers attached to the material of at least of the front torso portion and rear torso portion, the top edge of each of the two fabric layers defining an opening to the side pocket, a slit formed in the material of at least of the front torso portion and rear torso portion in communication with a spacing between the top edges of each of the two fabric layers. 
     
     
         24 . The pocket tank top assembly of  claim 22  further comprising a closure assembly configured to close the opening of the front pocket.
