Abstract
In particular embodiments, a method comprising accessing, at a client device, an object model representation of a structured document displayed in a browser client of a user to identify one or more elements of the structured document, and modifying, at the client device, the object model representation of the structured document to add one or more first controls proximal to respective ones of the one or more identified elements, wherein the one or more added first controls are operative, when executed, to transmit a message including an identifier of the respective element and an identifier associated with the user to a social networking system.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying software that is operable when executed to:
modify, by a browser plug-in in communication with a remote system and while loading a web page from a source external to the remote system, the web page to display one or more controls proximal to one or more corresponding objects in the web page, wherein each corresponding object is associated with the remote system; in response to detecting an interaction by a user with a particular one of the one or more controls, send, by the browser plug-in, a message to the remote system, wherein the message comprises: (1) an identifier associated with a particular object corresponding to the particular control and an identifier associated with the user, (2) instructions to augment a relationship in the remote system between an object representation of the user and a representation of the particular object in the remote system, and (3) an indication that the user has been authenticated by the remote system; and in response to receiving a response to the message from the remote system, modify, by the browser plug-in, the particular control to indicate the augmented relationship in the remote system between the particular object and the user.
2 . The computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the software is further operable when executed to determine whether each object in the web page is associated with the remote system based on whether the object is associated with a system identifier.
3 . The computer-readable media of claim 2 , wherein the system identifier is indicated in an attribute tag of a markup language element.
4 . The computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the remote system is a social-networking system.
5 . The computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the object representation of the user in the remote system is a node in a social-network graph.
6 . The computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the representation of the particular object in the remote system is a node in a social network graph.
7 . The computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the response contains a description of the relationship in the remote system between the object representation of the user and the particular object.
8 . The computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the one or more controls are viewable only when the user mouses-over one of the one or more identified objects.
9 . The computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the interaction comprises one or more of:
the user watching or viewing the particular object; the user liking or disliking the particular object; the user wanting product associated with the particular object; the user listening to the particular object; the user reading the particular object; or the user commenting on the particular object.
10 . A system comprising:
one or more processors; and a memory coupled to the processors comprising instructions executable by the processors, the processors being operable when executing the instructions to: modify, by a browser plug-in in communication with a remote system and while loading a web page from a source external to the remote system, the web page to display one or more controls proximal to one or more corresponding objects in the web page, wherein each corresponding object is associated with the remote system; in response to detecting an interaction by a user with a particular one of the one or more controls, send, by the browser plug-in, a message to the remote system, wherein the message comprises: (1) an identifier associated with a particular object corresponding to the particular control and an identifier associated with the user, (2) instructions to augment a relationship in the remote system between an object representation of the user and a representation of the particular object in the remote system, and (3) an indication that the user has been authenticated by the remote system; and in response to receiving a response to the message from the remote system, modify, by the browser plug-in, the particular control to indicate the augmented relationship in the remote system between the particular object and the user.
11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further operable when executing the instructions to determine whether each object in the web page is associated with the remote system based on whether the object is associated with a system identifier.
12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the system identifier is indicated in an attribute tag of a markup language element.
13 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the remote system is a social-networking system.
14 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the object representation of the user in the remote system is a node in a social-network graph.
15 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the representation of the particular object in the remote system is a node in a social network graph.
16 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the response contains a description of the relationship in the remote system between the object representation of the user and the particular object.
17 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the one or more controls are viewable only when the user mouses-over one of the one or more identified objects.
18 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the interaction comprises one or more of:
the user watching or viewing the particular object; the user liking or disliking the particular object; the user wanting product associated with the particular object; the user listening to the particular object; the user reading the particular object; or the user commenting on the particular object.
19 . A method comprising:
modifying, by a browser plug-in in communication with a remote system and while loading a web page from a source external to the remote system, the web page to display one or more controls proximal to one or more corresponding objects in the web page, wherein each corresponding object is associated with the remote system; in response to detecting an interaction by a user with a particular one of the one or more controls, sending, by the browser plug-in, a message to the remote system, wherein the message comprises: (1) an identifier associated with a particular object corresponding to the particular control and an identifier associated with the user, (2) instructions to augment a relationship in the remote system between an object representation of the user and a representation of the particular object in the remote system, and (3) an indication that the user has been authenticated by the remote system; and in response to receiving a response to the message from the remote system, modifying, by the browser plug-in, the particular control to indicate the augmented relationship in the remote system between the particular object and the user.
20 . The method of claim 19 , further comprising determining whether each object in the web page is associated with the remote system based on whether the object is associated with a system identifier.Cited by (0)
