Abstract

A computer receives an out of office status a user has indicated on an email application, the email application using a communications network and determines a quota status of the user based on a previous quota usage pattern and a current quota usage pattern, wherein the quota includes an amount of storage spaced allotted to the user. The computer receives a new email to be delivered to the user and assigns a quota status to the new email. In response to the assigned quota status, the computer determines when the new email should be delivered to the email application of the user. As soon as the sender enters the name(s) of the recipients, the quota usage monitoring engine retrieves the quota status information from the recipients mail box. The engine determines if the new email should be sent out from the senders outbox and dropped to recipients mail box.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method comprising:
 receiving, by a computer, an out of office status a user has indicated on an email application, the email application using a communications network;   determining, by the computer, a quota status of a quota for the user based on a previous quota usage pattern and a current quota usage pattern, wherein the quota includes an amount of storage spaced allotted to the user;   receiving, by the computer, a new email to be delivered to the user;   assigning, by the computer, a quota status to the new email; and   in response to the assigned quota status, determining, by the computer, when the new email is delivered to the email application of the user.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining, by the computer, a priority level for the new email based on priority rules established by the computer.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the priority rules are based on the user's email past history, the user's current email trends, subject matter of the new email, an identification of the sender of the new email, and current business needs. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , further comprising:
 delivering, by the computer, the new email based on both the assigned quota status and the assigned priority for the new email.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 in response to the assigned quota status, determining, by the computer, that the new email will not be currently sent to the user, and holding the new email in an email outbox located on a computer of the sender of the email.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 reviewing, by the computer, the new emails being held in an email outbox located on a computer of the sender of the email, and determining which of the new emails can be delivered to the user based on the user's available quota usage and the priority assigned to each of the new emails.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 receiving, by the computer, a removal of the out of office status of the user;   reviewing, by the computer, the new emails being held in an email outbox located on a computer of the sender of the email; and   delivering, by the computer, the held new emails based on the user's available quota usage and the priority assigned to each of the new emails.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 updating, by the computer, the quota status of the user when a new email is delivered to the user.   
     
     
         9 . A non-transitory computer program product comprising:
 one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media and program instructions stored on the one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media, the program instructions comprising:
 receiving an out of office status a user has indicated on an email application, the email application using a communications network; 
 determining a quota status of a quota for the user based on a previous quota usage pattern and a current quota usage pattern, wherein the quota includes an amount of storage spaced allotted to the user; 
 receiving a new email to be delivered to the user; 
 assigning a quota status to the new email; and 
 in response to the assigned quota status by the computer, when the new email is delivered to the email application of the user. 
   
     
     
         10 . The computer program product of  claim 9 , further comprising:
 determining a priority level for the new email based on priority rules established by the computer.

 in response to the assigned quota status, determining that the new email will not be currently sent to the user, and holding the new email in an email outbox located on a computer of the sender of the email.   
     
     
         14 . The computer program product of  claim 13 , further comprising:
 reviewing the new emails being held in an email outbox located on a computer of the sender of the email, and determining which of the new emails can be delivered to the user based on the user's available quota usage and the priority assigned to each of the new emails.   
     
     
         15 . The computer program product of  claim 13 , further comprising:
 receiving a removal of the out of office status of the user;   reviewing the new emails being held in an email outbox located on a computer of the sender of the email; and   delivering the held new emails based on the user's available quota usage and the priority assigned to each of the new emails.   
     
     
         16 . The computer program product of  claim 9 , further comprising:
 updating the quota status of the user when a new email is delivered to the user.   
     
     
         17 . A computer system comprising:
 one or more computer processors, one or more computer-readable storage media, and program instructions stored on one or more of the computer-readable storage media for execution by at least one of the one or more processors, the program instructions comprising:
 receiving an out of office status a user has indicated on an email application, the email application using a communications network; 
 determining a quota status of a quota for the user based on a previous quota usage pattern and a current quota usage pattern, wherein the quota includes an amount of storage spaced allotted to the user; 
 receiving a new email to be delivered to the user; 
 assigning a quota status to the new email; and 
 in response to the assigned quota status by the computer, when the new email is delivered to the email application of the user. 
   
     
     
         18 . The computer system of  claim 17 , further comprising:
 determining a priority level for the new email based on priority rules established by the computer, wherein the priority rules are based on the user's email past history, the user's current email trends, subject matter of the new email, an identification of the sender of the new email, and current business needs; and   delivering the new email based on both the assigned quota status and the assigned priority for the new email.   
     
     
         19 . The computer system of  claim 17 , further comprising:
 in response to the assigned quota status, determining that the new email will not be currently sent to the user, and holding the new email in an email outbox located on a computer of the sender of the email;   receiving a removal of the out of office status of the user;   reviewing the new emails being held in an email outbox located on a computer of the sender of the email; and   delivering the held new emails based on the user's available quota usage and the priority assigned to each of the new emails.   
     
     
         20 . The computer system of  claim 17 , further comprising:
 updating the quota status of the user when a new email is delivered to the user.
