Abstract

Systems and methods for continuous measurement of an analyte in a host are provided. The system generally includes a continuous analyte sensor configured to continuously measure a concentration of analyte in a host and a sensor electronics module physically connected to the continuous analyte sensor during sensor use, wherein the sensor electronics module is further configured to directly wirelessly communicate displayable sensor information to a plurality of different types of display devices.

21 . A method for customizing transmission of sensor information, the method comprising:
measuring a concentration of an analyte in a host using a continuous analyte sensor; processing, using a processor module, a data stream associated with the analyte concentration measured by the continuous analyte sensor to generate transformed information including analyte measurement information based at least on the data stream; wirelessly transmitting, using a communication module of a transmitting device the transformed information, wherein the transformed information is customized according to delivery options stored on the transmitting device, wherein the delivery options are user defined using software downloaded onto a computing device, the software configuring the computing device to allow a user to define at least some of the delivery options by allowing user selection, using a user interface of the computing device, of (i) one or more of a plurality of different display devices defining display devices to which to transmit the customized information according to respective identification information associated with the one or more different display devices, (ii) one or more of a plurality of different alert conditions associated with diabetes defining alert conditions that trigger transmission of the customized information upon the alert condition being met, and (iii) one or more of a plurality of different content requirements defining the customized information to be transmitted.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein wirelessly transmitting includes wirelessly transmitting the customized information to a first display device, the first display device defined by user-selection of the delivery options, wherein wirelessly transmitting the information to the first display device uses a standardized wireless protocol defined in the delivery options.

23 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
wirelessly transmitting the customized information, using the communication module, to a secondary display device according to the delivery options; and displaying the customized information on a user interface of the secondary display device, wherein the secondary display device was defined in the delivery options as a display device to which to transmit the customized information.

24 . The method of claim 23 , further comprising authenticating a wireless connection between the secondary display device and the communication module according to the delivery options.

25 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the secondary display device comprises a phone.

26 . The method of claim 23 , wherein wirelessly transmitting the information to a secondary display device comprises wirelessly transmitting the information to the secondary display device using a standardized wireless protocol defined in the delivery options.

27 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising storing sensor data on a data storage device of the computing device, wherein the sensor data is generated from the data stream.

28 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the transmitting device includes a sensor electronics module that incorporates the processor module, wherein the sensor electronics module is physically connected to the continuous analyte sensor during operation of the continuous analyte sensor.

29 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the customized information comprises displayable sensor information defined by the user-selected content requirements.

30 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the continuous analyte sensor is a continuous glucose sensor.

31 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising audibly, visibly or tactilely alerting a user, using a display device, when one or more of the alert conditions are satisfied.

32 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the alert conditions comprise a hypoglycemia condition and a hyperglycemia condition.

33 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the delivery options comprise a first delivery option associated with a first display device and a second delivery option associated with a second display device, wherein the first delivery option is defined by a user selecting, using the user interface of the computing device, a first device ID parameter associated with the first display device, one or more alert conditions associated with the first device ID parameter, and one or more data content requirements associated with the first device ID parameter, and
wherein the second delivery option is defined by a user selecting, using the user interface of the computing device, a second device ID parameter associated with the second display device, one or more alert conditions associated with the second device ID parameter, and one or more data content requirements associated with the second device ID parameter.

34 . The method of claim 21 , wherein defining the delivery options comprises selecting options listed in drop down menus displayed on the user interface of the computing device.
